- I feel like they are pretty separate concepts, though admittedly similar. I would argue that most of the dimensions still "exist" within the same universe as the Pokémon universe, just on a different plane. Landfish7 01:54, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
- Distinguishing between "dimension" and "alternate universe" is a science fiction. These can be used interchangeably by Pokémon media and we're not sure how it works in the japanese language.--Rocket Grunt 12:12, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
Alternate versions
Can we not say that each game in a pair takes place in an alternate universe within the multiverse? They cannot be the same universe due to the differences, as shown by a few of the entries on this page, but the fact that you can trade with opposite version games would mean they were in the same multiverse. Distortion World
I suggest removing the Distortion World and Reverse World, which were recently added on this article. Maybe we should also add a note that several dimensions exist and point the reader to Dimension instead.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Distortion World and Reverse World are alternate dimensions attached to the main universe like the Unown Dimension, Dialga's dimension, Palkia's dimension etc. which are covered by the Dimension article. The Distortion World is not an alternate universe like the multiple versions of Hoenn, Unova, Alola and others mentioned in the games, which are the focus of this article.
Incidentally, the intro currently says the article is about "multiple alternate realities, typically known as worlds or dimensions, forming what fans may consider to be the Pokémon multiverse". But I think that these alternate versions of Hoenn, Unova and so on are usually referred to as "worlds" instead of all the other terms ("dimensions", "realities", or even "multiverse"). For instance, in ORAS when Archie says "another world" or Maxie mentions "a slightly different world". --Daniel Carrero (talk) 07:25, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
This Entire Page is Super Problematic
This page lumps concepts including universes, dimensions, worlds, realities, and timelines together without properly making distinctions or differentiating when these concepts appear. This article discusses alternate branches in the timeline alongside what can simply be understood as different "locations" in the same universe (i.e. Distortion World), creating a misunderstanding in the effects these create in the overall Pokémon universe. Either these distinctions must be made clearer or separate pages must be created for each individual concept. It would be foolish to lump together Clefairy's home planet and the US/UM villains' home universes under the category of "alternate worlds." Thewaddlequaken (talk) 04:56, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
- I'd like to also add how despite separate pages for Dimensions and Universes, there is still erroneous conflation between the two terms. For instance, the Distortion World is suggested to be its own universe. However, so are individual save files. That means that every time anyone plays Pokémon Platinum, they are entering, in terms of the multiverse, the same place as everyone else's save file. You see how this is a problem? Logistically, there'd only be one Giratina across all our save files. Hence, the Distortion World exists across different planes of existence, but within its own local universe.
