Rods

I beat the Fast League and seem to have received the So-So Old Rod as a reward instead of the Good Old Rod. Might these be alternative rewards? CreepyJeff (talk) 22:21, 26 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Are you sure you beat the Fast League rather than the Quick League? Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 00:01, 27 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Ah, thank you. When I posted the comment, there was only the Quick League posted, and so I assumed I had misremembered the name. Thank you. CreepyJeff (talk) 17:34, 28 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Similarily, does the Great Old Rod require Expert League 1, 2, or 3? CreepyJeff (talk) 11:51, 29 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Random encounters - Add possible outcomes?

Would it be beneficial to add a column for possible outcomes and/or add some indication to which events trigger a retire? Another thing might be to add which encounters are only one time. Once we have some kind of template for it I'd be happy to add them all in. Thoughts? Tythal (talk) 00:38, 29 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, it seems that there could be something, possibly another 2 columns that are split, with the first one being options and the second being outcomes. However, I fear this would be messy and hard to read, so there is probably a better solution. CreepyJeff (talk) 11:51, 29 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
I definitely think this is a good idea. I'm a little scared to click certain options because I don't know what could happen. I think an outcomes is useful. I would think we start with the table and if we want to reorganize it later, that's fine -- but getting the information down should be priority. PidgeyFood (talk) 10:38, 5 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
As it stands, the list is short-sighted in a few areas. Most notably, in random encounters involving a binary choice, the list currently only mentions the possible outcomes if the "risky" option is chosen.
For example, with the random encounter All That Glitters, It's possible that:
  • You opt to have Magikarp check the glitter out, and it turns out to be Diamonds.
    (Diamond increase)
  • You opt to have Magikarp check the glitter out, and it turns out to be broken glass.
    (JP decrease)
  • You opt not to have Magikarp check the glitter out, and Magikarp enjoys a good rest at home.
    (JP increase)
Also, for the sake of completeness, I would propose that we provide a complete transcription for every random encounter, perhaps using the hide/show tool to maintain readability, and state the practical outcome after each dialogue option.

Leagues

Should we add a Table for every League and their battles which would include the JP of each battle? I have a Word Pad with this info, so I could fill in the table if someone else can make the table. DarkEonMaster (talk) 20:29, 30 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

I went ahead and made this User:Raltseye/Magikarp Jump League feel free to complete it. --Raltseye prata med mej 15:09, 1 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
I see. I will try to complete as much as I can, though I completely forgot to write down the rewards. Don't the rewards change based on Trainer rank though? DarkEonMaster (talk) 02:47, 2 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
I don't think so. It sounds more reasonable to be the same for each stage, but I don't know maybe it does. --Raltseye prata med mej 09:53, 2 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I'm thinking it's likely that coin rewards change based on your rank; I haven't been keeping exact track, but it sure seems like I'm getting more coins per battle now (generation 11, rank 15) than I was when I started the Heavy League (generation 5, must've been in the single-digits of rank) even when I start the league over with a new Magikarp.
On the other hand, I'm also tentatively confident that EXP rewards don't change based on rank, since I'm getting the same as ever from the Heavy League (iirc, 2 per battle to start with, shifting to 3 at some point midway through).
And, of course, boss battle rewards shouldn't change at all, since they're visible at any time in the menu. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 17:09, 2 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Maybe you're right. Maybe I was thinking of Exp after all, highly possible. --Raltseye prata med mej 21:53, 2 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I just checked and I see that Coins and EXP stay the same (at least in the Luxury League). I am now starting to record the coins and EXP from each League Battle. DarkEonMaster (talk) 11:01, 5 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Shortchanged Glitch

I've noticed that some random encounters, like Nugget and Roddy Tackle, will state that I obtained more coins than what I actually gained. Just a moment before typing this, I apparently sold a Nugget for 4,000 coins or so, but my coin counters only went from ~3,000 to ~5,000, for a mere ~2,000 increase. And this kind of thing has happened to me plenty of times.

Has anyone else experienced this? Maybe we could mention it in a new Bugs section?

Haddady ~Straight Outta the Bag~ 21:58, 31 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

I have actually noticed this as well. At first, I thought it was a bug, but I paid more attention to it and noticed that you do get all the coins. For some reason though, the counter starts off with you having some of the coins.
Ex: You start with 500 coins. Roddy Tackle gives you 400 coins. It shows you have 700 coins before giving you the other 200.
Keep track of how many coins you have before an event starts (like before training) and see for yourself. Hopefully, what you experienced is the same "bug" :) DarkEonMaster (talk) 02:47, 2 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Interesting, I'll have to pay attention to how many coins I have before I initiate an encounter. In any case, it probably still qualifies as a bug, since common sense dictates that the coin counter really should increase by the specified amount.

Shinies in random encounters

I just saw a shiny Luvdisc swimming by in the Manaphy event. Does this belong in the article? --Raltseye prata med mej 07:44, 7 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

I experienced the same thing, but with a Shiny Corsola. I think it's worth noting. Satsjoe (talk) 09:42, 7 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Max Trainer Rank

I have reached the Max Trainer Rank that you can achieve (at least in this current version of 1.0.3) and instead of the "Rank #" Button appearing in the Pond, it is now replaced with a Support Candy Meter. Now, instead of Exp. going towards the next rank, it now goes toward 1 support candy gained. Here is how it says it on the menu:

  • Max Rank Bonus
  • Next Support Candy:
  • Get 34,544 more Exp. Point(s)!
  • You get a Support Candy every time your Exp. Points reach a certain level.
  • Note: If the maximum Trainer Rank is increased due to an update, your gauge will be reset.

Should we add a section dedicated to this and general Rank info? DarkEonMaster (talk) 22:15, 8 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

The Max Trainer Rank is now 63 (it was 51 before) and for every 290,000 exp. points, you will get a Support Candy (though I think it was much lower in the previous update). DarkEonMaster (talk) 01:34, 25 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Problem with edit in section "Random encounter events"

The last person to edit the "Random encounter events" part of the page added "JP bonus" as one of the outcomes to the event No. 24 "Slacker Magikarp". This outcome is if you don't take the risk of the event. I think it is better to not include the outcomes of not taking the risk, since it always gives a JP bonus and because this is said right above the table on this article: "During some of these events, the player has a choice whether to take a risk; if they do, a positive outcome or a negative outcome may occur, and if they decline, they will be rewarded JP for going home and getting some rest." Because of this, there should be no need to add "JP bonus" on every event with a choice. If we are in agreement, we should undo the last edit of the page made by "ZeMonGrabber". DarkEonMaster (talk) 01:34, 25 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

I think instead of removing it, we should be specifically listing within the table which choices lead to which outcomes. And for all events with a choice, not just that one. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 01:39, 25 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, that is better. Should we split it into Positive and Negative outcomes only or also have the "No risk" outcome, even though they seem to all be a JP Bonus? Also, how could we do it to show which choices lead to which outcomes since not all are "Yes" and "No"? DarkEonMaster (talk) 03:16, 25 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
When I added that line of prose, my intention was to avoid adding the same "No risk" alternative to each and every event with a choice. All that is in the table should be what is decided randomly when you don't decline (i.e., when you hit the right buttons); positive outcome first, then negative outcome (but they're not that hard to tell apart anyway). I still prefer that. Nescientist (talk) 10:34, 25 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Deaths

Somewhere on the article, can we list all the ways Magikarp can die or retire? sumwun (talk) 06:24, 25 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Reading the random encounter events section should tell you that. There aren't any other ways than that, as far as I know. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 14:49, 25 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
I overlooked that. Thanks for telling me. sumwun (talk) 16:44, 25 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

How to include this game in other articles

Lots of Pokémon and items are in this game, and yet (at least from a brief look) none of them mention this game. In fact, Magikarp (Pokémon) currently doesn't mention this game, nor does it link here.

For items, I guess a mention will be good and rather straightforward (at least if there are item pages, like Leftovers). For the helper Pokémon "spawned" by items (do they have an official name?), I was thinking maybe side game infoboxes? For all other Pokémon (including Magikarp itself), I'm more or less asking for good ideas. So, anyone have an idea how to do that? Nescientist (talk) 15:21, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Not sure how to do Magikarp itself, but it seems like everything else would pretty easily work as a bullet point in the "NPC appearances" section, the way that Mystery Dungeon NPCs do. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 15:24, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Good idea. And do you mean for those who don't spawn from items (and wouldn't get a spindata template), or for all of them (no spindata template)? Nescientist (talk) 15:42, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
I would be open to either way, depending on whether someone's willing to code a spindata template. But I suppose the spindata template would probably be better, so as to include the image. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 16:20, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
A hint: someone should really explain the Friendship Items' intersection of Pokemon/items on the page. There's currently no explanation to suggest how some sort of entry on the species' page would even make sense, or what's the deal with them, or basically anything to someone who doesn't already know the game. (I'm not asking for an explanation here; I'm saying: someone who knows how: improve the page.) Tiddlywinks (talk) 17:13, 7 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Explanation added by Pumpkinking, my spindata template ({{Spindata/Magikarp Jump}}) approved and implemented. I've also started with a Pidgeotto and Voltorb NPC appearances, the rest is still to do. (Most importantly Magikarp, where I had the idea a pattern gallery might be a good idea, possibly within an "NPC appearance" header as well, but not so sure.)
