Talk:Honey (character)

This page is called "Honey (Galar)" to distinguish it from the Honey item...except that item also appears in Galar. Wouldn't it make more sense to call it "Honey (character)" or something? That does a much better job than "Galar" at communicating what the subject is and distinguishing it from the item. Hewer (talk) 10:53, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- I feel "(Galar)" in this case would normally be used to differentiate her from another character also named Honey but from a different region. Since that's not the case here, "Honey (character)" does seem more appropriate. Landfish7 11:26, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- I agree that (Galar) isn't a good dabtag for this page, but using (character) feels a little out of place with our dabtag standards. The only pages that use the dabtag (character) are Detective Pikachu and Copycat, compared to the 60 or so pages that use (game) as a dabtag. Detective Pikachu being at (character) instead of (game) is reasonable because the primary thing it's being disambiguation from is actually a game, but Honey doesn't have that issue. So, I think that it'd be better to move this page to Honey (game). Storm Aurora (talk) 01:06, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah that makes sense. I support it. Landfish7 01:11, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- No, that just recreates the same issue I described initially. If anything it makes it worse by making the identifier even less specific. The point of this is to distinguish the character from the item, and the item appears in the games, so "game" doesn't reduce ambiguity at all. The more logical choice is "character" because it better communicates what the subject is - the difference between the two Honeys isn't the region or media they appear in, it's that one is a character while the other is a literal jar of honey. If we've made exceptions before for the sake of making sense, we can do so here as well. Hewer (talk) 02:08, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- I completely agree with Hewer. As said by An Aduskant Crystal on the Discord, the "game" language is clear for those who have used the wiki for a long time, but not for newer users. Gwen Stacy (talk) 07:40, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hmm yeah, I could really see it going either way, but I think I slightly lean towards agreeing with (character) working better here. The priority for disambiguation should be what we're disambiguating it against, and in this case "this is Honey the character, not Honey the item" is more clear than "this is Honey from Galar, not the item". - The issue with (game) is that both the item and the character are present in the games. Given that the character also appears in other media, it's not apparent that (game) is more applicable to the character than to the item. Using (character) solves this. -- Apopheniac (talk) 10:19, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- As people have said, I think the primary purpose of a dabtag is to disambiguate from everything else (with disambiguation standards being a secondary consideration at most). I support the move to "Honey (character)" (and I don't support a move to "Honey (game)", per what Hewer said). Nescientist (talk) 11:15, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- Fwiw, I think using Honey (character), in this somewhat unique case of the name of the character also being a item, would be the best solution. Thespeon196 (talk) 13:50, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- Okay, fair enough. I don't particularly like the (game) dabtag standard anyways, but I thought it was worth bringing up. I'll support the move to Honey (character). Storm Aurora (talk) 18:02, 17 May 2025 (UTC)

There was a unanimous consensus here to move to "Honey (character)", but it still hasn't been done. I'm not entirely sure what the procedure is on this wiki, should I move the page myself or wait for an admin to do it? Hewer (talk) 13:19, 7 December 2025 (UTC)
- If there's a consensus and the change makes sense, you're usually welcome to be bold and make the change, particularly for a change that only impacts a single page like this. Landfish7 20:10, 7 December 2025 (UTC)
