Surge]], was behind the thefts and was using the ship to transport the stolen Pokémon away. After torturing Red with his {{t|Electric}} Pokémon, Surge tossed him overboard. However, Red was narrowly saved from drowning when his {{p|Poliwhirl}} unexpectedly [[evolution|evolved]] into [[Poli]]wrath, which then proceeded to defeat Lt. Surge's {{p|Electabuzz}} with {{m|Seismic Toss}}. Although the authorities failed to find and arrest Surge, the stolen Pokémon aboard the ship were still recovered.


The S.S. Anne is a huge cargo ship owned by [[Lt. Surge]] that arrives in [[Vermilion City]] port once every month.

In ''[[PS056|The Coming of Slowpoke (Eventually)]]'', the ship, which was now a passenger ship instead of a cargo ship, was sabotaged by the [[Team Rocket Elite Trio]], who exploded a bomb inside the ship and caused it to start sinking. Although Yellow was able to defeat the trio and save all of the passengers, the ship still sunk at the Vermilion Harbor.

The S.S. Anne appeared in ''[[PZ04|Vermilion City]]'', where {{zensho|Satoshi}} met the ship's seasick captain. After the captain had recovered, he talked with Satoshi for a bit, before he headed off to the [[Vermilion Gym]]. After Satoshi had earned the {{badge|Thunder}}, the captain showed up at the Gym and gave Satoshi {{HM|01|Cut}}, before the S.S. Anne set sail.
