Cherrygrove is the first city that you'll encounter in the region that has a Pokémon Center and a Pokémon Mart.  Poké Centers are essentially hospitals where your creatures can be restored to perfect health.  The PC at the rear wall is always available for Trainers to organize their Pokémon and items.  Poké Marts offer a wide range of items for sale, from Potions to Poké Balls.

Cherrygrove is the first city that you'll encounter in the region that has a Pokémon Center and a Pokémon Mart.  Veterans of the series already know their functions, but for anyone else:
* Poké Center: Heal your team to full health & normal status by talking to the nurse behind the counter.  Trainers can also access the PC along the right-hand wall to organize their Pokémon, and withdraw/deposit items.
* Poké Mart: Here you can buy items ranging from Poké Balls to Max Potions.

Talk to Guide Gent at the east entrance to get a Cherrygrove City of the city.  Before he leaves you, he gives you the Pokégear to add to your Pokégear.  This acts as the Town Map from Generation I.  To use it, press Start, select Pokégear, and move the cursor to the map icon.

After returning to Professor Elm from Mr. Pokémon's house, visit the Poké Mart to stock up on Poké Balls.  These are essential for recruiting more monsters for your team!

Once you can use Surf outside of battle, you can swim to the island in the southwest.  The fisherman there will give you a Type-enhancing item, a pendant that enhances Water-type moves when held by a Pokémon.
