Project AZOTH

Project AZOTH (Japanese: プロジェクト AZOTH Project AZOTH) is a project created by Team MagmaOR/Team AquaAS to bring the world back to its beginnings by utilizing the Primal Reversion of GroudonOR/KyogreAS. It is the basis of their plans in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. This plan was inspired by the villainous teams researching the ultimate weapon created by AZ and the Infinity Energy it produced 3,000 years ago.
In the games
Originally, the plan was to return the world to its primordial state by awakening either Primal Groudon (by Team Magma in Pokémon Omega Ruby) or Primal Kyogre (by Team Aqua in Pokémon Alpha Sapphire). To achieve this, the villainous organizations conducted research and developed technology to break the seal on the Seafloor Cavern, where the Legendary Pokémon rested, using stolen equipment from the Devon Corporation, allowing them to break the seal with use of Infinity Energy. Once they gained access, the team's leader, Magma Leader Maxie or Aqua Leader Archie, used the Red Orb or Blue Orb, respectively, to awaken the super-ancient Pokémon and trigger its Primal Reversion. They were taught this method by a disguised Zinnia, who secretly used the organization to awaken the Super-ancient Pokémon in an attempt to lure out Rayquaza in preparation for Grand Meteor Delta's arrival.[1]
However, after the Pokémon awakens, the opposing team's leader reveals that restoring the world to its original state would require the Legendary Pokémon to annihilate all life on the planet. Realizing the catastrophic consequences of their actions, Maxie or Archie repents and abandons Project AZOTH, choosing instead to help the player stop the rampaging Pokémon.
Even after their leaders' change of heart, Team Magma's Courtney or Team Aqua's Matt remains committed to completing the project. During the Delta Episode, they lead a squad of Grunts in a raid on the Mossdeep Space Center, stealing the dimensional shifter. Their plan is to use a Key Stone to resonate with the rocket's Infinity Energy, originally meant to warp an incoming meteoroid into another dimension, and cause it to explode, thus reverting the world to its beginnings. However, after being defeated in battle by the player and Steven, Aster snatches the dimensional shifter, and Zinnia destroys it before stealing their Key Stone, ending their final attempt to carry out the plan.
Project AZOTH files
- "PROJECT AZOTH File No. 1 The goal of Project AZOTH is to return the world—return everything—to the beginning. In order to further the project, we must proceed with research on Groudon'sOR/Kyogre'sAS Primal Reversion. Primal Reversion is a potential of Pokémon Evolution, a potential different from Mega Evolution. Mega Evolution is made possible by the energy of people and Pokémon. Primal Reversion is made possible by natural energy. In Primal Reversion, GroudonOR/KyogreAS absorbs natural energy into its body, thereby increasing its power dramatically. Both states significantly enhance Pokémon's power: the difference lies in the source of the required energy."
- "PROJECT AZOTH File No. 2 We intend to analyze the power of the ultimate weapon used in Kalos 3,000 years ago and work on the development of a drill weapon utilizing the technology. The Seafloor Cavern is sealed by the power of a Legendary Pokémon. The only way to gain access to the cavern is to break the seal with power that exceeds that of the Pokémon. According to the report from the Petalburg recon team, Devon Corporation holds the secret of the technology of the ultimate weapon. We will dedicate all our resources to obtain this technology."
