Release information

This card was included in the XY expansion, first released in the Japanese Collection X. In Japan, it was reprinted as a Mirror Holofoil XY-P Promotional card, made available as part of a twelve card promotional pack awarded to those who participated in the Pokémon Card Gym tournaments from the month of February 2014 through the month of April 2014. This print features the Card Gym logo.

The XY print were subsequently reprinted in the Japanese M Charizard-EX Mega Battle Deck, Hyper Metal Chain Deck (later released as part of the English Phantom Forces expansion), Super Legend Set: Xerneas-EX & Yveltal-EX, M Rayquaza-EX Mega Battle Deck, M Master Deck Build Box Power Style, M Master Deck Build Box Speed Style, and Golduck BREAK + Palkia-EX Combo Deck. It was reprinted again in the English BREAKpoint expansion, in the Japanese BREAK Starter Pack, and in the simultaneously released Japanese Zygarde-EX Perfect Battle Deck and M Audino-EX Mega Battle Decks. Another Mirror Holofoil print was included in the Japanese Premium Champion Pack. An unnumbered XY-P Promotional print was 1 of 9 cards available in special packs sent to Japanese Event Organizers in July 2016 for distribution in official events hosted by them. This print features the Event Organizer logo in the bottom right corner of the illustration.

A Full Art print was included in the Steam Siege expansion, first released as one of the Japanese XY-P Promotional cards, which was given to customers who purchased 2 boxes in any combination of Fever-Burst Fighter or Cruel Traitor at participating Pokémon Card Gym venues and Pokémon Centers upon their release. This print features the expansion logos on the bottom of the card. The XY print was reprinted in Japan at the start of the Sun & Moon Era in the Premium Trainer Box. Despite the new Era having introduced a new card layout for Trainers, this print retains its original layout. In Japan, The Best of XY subset also included a reprint of the XY print utilizing the old card layout.

The BREAKpoint print later received a Holofoil variant in the form of a Yellow A Alternate card, with new artwork by Naoki Saito. This print was included in the Battle Arena Decks: Black Kyurem vs White Kyurem released June 16, 2017. In Japan, the original print was reprinted in the Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon Premium Trainer Box, once again keeping the old layout. The Yellow A Alternate art print was reprinted in the Japanese Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon Deck Build Boxes.

Rulings

This card's effect is identical to Professor Juniper. Because of this, errata was issued for both cards stating that only one or the other be included in the same deck, not both. This ruling later included Professor's Research.

Trivia

This card's effect is that of Professor Oak as a Supporter card.

Origin

Professor Sycamore is the resident Pokémon Professor of the Kalos region. The interior of the Sycamore Pokémon Lab is featured in the XY print's illustration.
