Release information
This card was released in the HeartGold & SoulSilver expansion, first released in the Japanese SoulSilver Collection. It was later reprinted in the English Gyarados Half Deck of the HS Trainer Kit. The initial Japanese release was classified as an Item card, but the English version did not adopt this name until its release in the Black & White expansion. This print has new artwork by 5ban Graphics and originated from the Japanese Black Collection. The Black & White print was subsequently included in the Black & White Trainer Kit.
Pokémon Communication was reprinted during the Sun & Moon Series as part of the Team Up expansion, appearing as both a Regular card and a Full Art Secret card. Both prints feature artwork by Ayaka Yoshida and originate from the Japanese Tag Bolt expansion. In Japan, it was reprinted as one of the SM-P Promotional cards and was 1 of 9 possible cards included in special packs sent to Event Organizers in April 2019 for distribution in official events hosted by them. This print features the Event Organizer logo in the bottom right corner of the illustration. It was reprinted again in the Japanese Remix Bout subset. It was reprinted as a Yellow A Alternate card with different artwork by Studio Bora Inc. and was awarded as the International Championships participation card for the 2019-2020 season. Two of the four planned versions of this card were printed with stamps reflecting the event in which they were distributed. These included the Latin America International Championships, held at the Centro de Eventos PRO MAGNO in São Paulo, Brazil, on November 15–17, 2019 and the Oceania International Championships, held at the Melbourne Exhibition & Convention Centre, Melbourne, Australia on February 21–23, 2020. The Europe International Championships, scheduled to be held at the Estrel Berlin Congress Center in Berlin, Germany on April 17–19, 2020, and the North America International Championships, scheduled to be held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, Columbus, Ohio, USA on June 26–28, 2020, were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Each of the prints that saw release have additional gold foil stamped "Staff" versions given to those overseeing the events, as well as gold foil stamped "Top 8" and "Champion" versions given to competitors. This print originated from the Japanese Alter Genesis expansion.
In Japan, the Team Up Regular print and another new print with artwork by OOYAMA were later included in the Tag All Stars subset. Another SM-P Promotional card, this time with the collection number 402/SM-P, and was also given to participants of Beginner's Classroom and Daily Card Battle events held at each chosen School Festa 2019 venue across Japan on weekends during October and November 2019. Representatives from Pokémon circles in schools and universities were required to register their interest in hosting an event during the application period, which ran from July 12 until October 11, 2019. If selected, The Pokémon Company would supply the circle with all paraphernalia to host the event. This print has the School Festa 2019 logo in the bottom right corner of the illustration.
In Japan, the Team Up Regular print was reprinted in the Sword & Shield Premium Trainer Box and in the Single Strike & Rapid Strike Premium Trainer Boxes. The Tag All Stars print with OOYAMA's artwork was released in English as a Yellow A Alternate card within the Trainer's Toolkit, available June 26, 2020.

Trivia
This card's effect is practically identical to Pokémon Trader, a card first released in the Base Set.
Origin
This card is based on the PC and Pokémon Storage System, where Trainers can deposit a Pokémon and withdraw a stored one. A Pokémon Center from Alola is featured in the Yellow A Alternate print's illustration.
