Joltik Box or Joltik Toolbox (Japanese: バチュルバレットBachuru Bullet[note 1]) is a Pokémon Trading Card Gamedeck archetype that was mainly played in the 2025-26 season of the Standard format. By using Joltik's "Jolting Charge" attack, the player can power up attacks from powerful Pokémon ex such as Iron Hands ex and Pikachu ex, allowing them to take an early Prize card lead or win out against various matchups.
The Joltik Box archetype emerged in the early months of the 2025-26 Standard format, and has earned many notable finishes, including 1st place in the Seniors Division of the April 2025 Special Event in Seville, Spain, and the May 2025 Regionals in Portland, Oregon.
Strategy
The Joltik Box archetype centers around Joltik and its "Jolting Charge" attack. For 1 Colorless Energy, "Jolting Charge" lets the player search their deck for up to 2 Basic (Grass) Energy and up to 2 Basic (Lightning) Energy cards and attach them to their Pokémon in any way the player chooses. This burst acceleration of Energy can be done as early as the first turn of the game for the player going second, and allows the player to charge up various powerful attackers. The most notable attacker is Iron Hands ex; its "Amp You Very Much" attack lets the player take an additional Prize card if the attack Knocks Out the opponent's Pokémon, upsetting the Prize trade on any opponent playing Evolution decks as the player essentially can turn any opposing single-Prize Basic Pokémon into a 2-Prize one. The deck also utilizes Pikachu ex as another attacker, dealing 300 damage for 3 Energy, which can Knock Out many Pokémon ex.
The Joltik Box archetype's merits include its fast-paced setup and flexibility into various matchups. Players using Joltik Box decks will always want to go second in any given game, in order to use "Jolting Charge" on their first turn.
Joltik - Joltik's "Jolting Charge" attack lets the player search their deck for up to 4 Basic Energy cards — 2 (Grass) and 2 (Lightning) — and attach them to their Pokémon in any way they like. This attack is key in powering up various attackers listed below:
Iron Hands ex - Iron Hands ex has the "Amp You Very Much" attack, which deals 120 damage and has the player take 1 additional Prize card if the attack Knocks Out the opponent's Pokémon. This allows the player to target their opponent's low-HP Basic Pokémon and take Knock Outs on them, while still taking 2 Prize cards as if they Knocked Out a Pokémon ex. If a Pokémon ex has a Lightning-type Weakness, using "Amp You Very Much" on it allows the player to take 3 Prize cards, halfway to winning the game. In a pinch, Iron Hands ex can also use its "Arm Press" attack for 160 damage.
Pikachu ex - Its "Topaz Bolt" attack does 300 damage (at the cost of discarding 3 Energy from it), which can one-shot various Basic and Stage 1 Pokémon ex. It also has the "Resolute Heart" Ability, which prevents it from being Knocked Out by damage if its HP is full.
Miraidon ex - Its "Tandem Unit" Ability allows the player to put up to 2 Lightning-type Pokémon from their deck directly onto their Bench. This lets the player set up Joltik and a Lightning-type attacker to power up. Its "Photon Blaster" attack deals 220 damage and can also be used to Knock Out low-HP Basic Pokémon ex.
Additional attackers that do not necessarily need to be powered up by "Jolting Charge" but are still useful otherwise:
Iron Leaves ex - With its "Rapid Vernier" Ability, when it is played from the hand onto the Bench, the player may switch it into the Active Spot and move any number of Basic Energy cards from their other Benched Pokémon to it. This card's "Prism Edge" attack deals 180 damage and can Knock Out low HP Basic Pokémon ex such as Squawkabilly ex and Mew ex, or Pokémon ex that are weak to the Grass type.
Galvantula - Another Grass-type attacker besides Iron Leaves ex that is useful to target Pokémon ex with a Grass-type Weakness. When the conditions for both its "Compound Eyes" Ability and "Shocking Web" attack are satisfied, this card can deal upwards of 180 damage, or 360 damage when multiplied for Weakness.
Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex - Its "Blood Moon" attack does 240 damage and costs 1 Energy less for each Prize card the opponent has taken. It is useful in the late game to take a final 2-Prize Knock Out and secure the win, but it can also be powered up early with "Jolting Charge" or Crispin.
Latias ex - Its "Skyliner" Ability nullifies the Retreat Cost of all the player's Basic Pokémon in play, providing the Joltik Box archetype with great mobility.
Mew ex - Its "Restart" Ability allows the player to fill their hand up to 3 cards. Useful as a draw boost, particularly since this deck doesn't generally run a draw engine. Its "Genome Hacking" Ability can also be used to copy the attacks of the opponent's Active Pokémon.
Fezandipiti ex - Its "Flip the Script" Ability provides extra draw power by allowing the player to draw 3 cards if any of their Pokémon were Knocked Out during their opponent's last turn. Its "Cruel Arrow" attack can also be useful, as it deals 100 damage to 1 of the opponent's Pokémon, including Benched Pokémon.
Nest Ball and Ultra Ball - Generic Pokémon searcher cards. Nest Ball searches and benches Basic Pokémon directly onto the Bench (such as a Miraidon ex, which can then search for Lightning-type Pokémon), while Ultra Ball requires the player to discard 2 other cards from their hand but can search for any Pokémon, such as Galvantula.
Earthen Vessel - At the cost of discarding another card from the player's hand, this card searches up to 2 Basic Energy cards from the deck. This card is useful to guarantee that the player pulls off the "Jolting Charge" attack as early as their first turn.
Super Rod - Allows the player to recycle Pokémon and Basic Energy cards from their discard pile back into their deck.
Prime Catcher - The ACE SPEC card of choice for Joltik Box decks, this card allows the player to switch an opponent's Benched Pokémon to the Active Spot, as well as switching their own Active Pokémon with 1 of their Benched Pokémon. This lets the player target specific Pokémon on the opponent's Bench in order to preserve a 2-2-2 Prize card map, such as Knocking Out an important evolving Basic Pokémon with Iron Hands ex or using Pikachu ex to attack a bulky Pokémon ex.
Bravery Charm - Adds +50 to the maximum HP of the Basic Pokémon it is attached to. Useful as this deck plays mostly Basic Pokémon.
Air Balloon - This card reduces the Retreat Cost of the Pokémon it is attached to by 2. This can be used to retreat a non-Basic Pokémon like Galvantula, or a Basic Pokémon with a large Retreat Cost such as Iron Hands ex, especially if Latias ex is not in play.
Future Booster Energy Capsule - Nullifies Retreat Cost and adds +20 to the damage of attacks of the Future Pokémon this card is attached to. This card increases Iron Hands ex's "Amp You Very Much" output to 140, allowing it to Knock Out targets it normally couldn't, such as Gholdengo or Pidgeot ex (accounting for Weakness).
Arven - Searches the deck for an Item card and a Pokémon Tool card, such as a Nest Ball and a Bravery Charm.
Crispin - Allows the player to search their deck for up to 2 Basic Energy cards of different types, put 1 of them into their hand, and attach the other one onto their Pokémon. This card complements the Joltik Box strategy as it lets the player search their deck for Energy cards that can't be searched with "Jolting Charge" such as (Metal) or (Psychic) Energy, and it can be used to great effect in the late game as well.
Boss's Orders - Switches in 1 of the opponent's Benched Pokémon into the Active Spot. Typically used to chase down and Knock Out a 2-Prize Pokémon ex.
Pokégear 3.0 - Allows the player to look at the top 7 cards of their deck and add a Supporter card they find there into their hand. This card can be used to guarantee an Arven, Crispin, or Boss's Orders in their hand.
Brave Bangle - When attacking an opponent's Active Pokémon ex, this card adds +30 damage to attacks used by the Pokémon without a Rule Box that it is attached to. This can be used with Galvantula to hit higher numbers on certain Pokémon ex. As this card is a Pokémon Tool, it can be easily searched with Arven.
Kieran - This Supporter card adds +30 damage when attacking an opponent's Active Pokémon ex, furthering the output of Joltik Box attackers in certain matchups. Alternatively, this card can be used to switch the player's Active Pokémon, which can be useful in a pinch.
Powerglass - If a Pokémon with this Pokémon Tool attached is in the Active Spot, the player may attach a Basic Energy card from their discard pile onto it at the end of their turn. This can be used to power up certain attackers such as Pikachu ex.
Heavy Baton - If an Active Pokémon with a Retreat Costof exactly 4 has this Pokémon Tool attached and is Knocked Out by the opponent's attack damage, the player may move up to 3 Basic Energy from it to their Benched Pokémon as they wish. This can be used with Iron Hands ex, which has a Retreat Cost of 4, in order to preserve Energy in play and not let them be sent to the discard pile.
Protective Goggles - Nullifies the Weakness of the Basic Pokémon it is attached to.
Zekrom ex - Its "Voltage Burst" attack does 130 damage, plus an additional 50 damage for each Prize card the opponent has taken. This is useful as an alternative late-game attacker, dealing upwards of 380 damage if the opponent only has 1 Prize card remaining.
Eelektrik - It has the "Dynamotor" Ability, which allows the player to attach a Basic (Lightning) Energy card from their discard pile to 1 of their Benched Pokémon. This allows the player to add more Energy into play and not rely so much on Crispin for Energy acceleration.
Terapagos ex - Its "Unified Beatdown" attack does 30 damage for each of the player's Benched Pokémon, functioning as yet another big damage attacker. Alternatively, its "Crown Opal" attack protects it from all attacks from Basic non-Colorless Pokémon, which can check decks that only run Basic Pokémon attackers such as Joltik Box or Raging Bolt Ogerpon.
Iron Bundle - Its "Hyper Blower" Ability forces the opponent to move their Active Pokémon into their Bench and bring up 1 of their Benched Pokémon into the Active Spot.
Psyduck - Its "Damp" Ability removes all Abilities that would require the Pokémon using it to Knock Out itself. Particularly useful to shut down Dusclops and Dusknoir's "Cursed Blast" Ability, which can place damage counters to take Knock Outs on Joltik or disable Pikachu ex's "Resolute Heart" Ability.
Counter Catcher - Another card that switches in the opponent's Benched Pokémon to the Active Spot, but it only works if the player has more Prize cards remaining.
Area Zero Underdepths - Expands both players' Bench slots from 5 to 8 if they have any Tera Pokémon in play (Pikachu ex, in the case of this archetype). More Bench slots allows the player to Bench more attackers, or Energy acceleration cards such as "Dynamotor" Eelektrik.
Team Rocket's Petrel - Allows the player to search their deck for any Trainer card and put them into their hand. Unlike Arven, this card can also be used to search for Stadium cards.
↑"Bullet" is short for "Silver Bullet", a term derived from the Magic: The Gathering fandom which refers to decks that include various cards to target specific matchups.
