Attack on the Headquarters (Japanese: 本拠地を攻めろ Attack the Headquarters) is the seventh chapter of the Pokémon Horizon manga.

Plot

A boat drops Akira, Mana, and Rockruff off on another island surrounded by reefs, and they are quickly faced by the large imposing doors of the Team Kings headquarters. In order to get here they, they had used Rockruff's sense of smell for tracking and listened to what the people of the island had to say. This had led to them to their destination, Wamu Island, an island so small that it doesn't appear on the Alolan tourist maps.

Rockruff growls at the doors, scenting the enemy. Suddenly, the Pokémon is hit by a Flamethrower attack from a Salazzle. Mana says it was a dirty trick, but Salazzle's owner–the girl who was talking with Tokio earlier–says they should always be ready to fight. She introduces herself as Napo, saying she has been waiting for the Rockruff with the red stone so that they, Team Kings, can use it to control the world. Akira quips that it is no longer a Rockruff, as it evolves into Lycanroc, and Napo is surprised that it has evolved. Akira says it must be that Rockruff evolves into Lycanroc when battling Team Kings, and sends in his Pokémon to battle.

Napo is impressed by Lycanroc, but says it would not have been necessary to battle it if Tokio had captured it earlier. Akira is shocked at the mention of Tokio, who is watching them from a distance. Napo remains confident of winning, however, and Salazzle attacks with Toxic, stopping Lycanroc in its tracks. Lycanroc continues to attack, but is in pain. Mana explains it's taking more damage from the poison as time goes on, and Napo confirms that's how poison works. Napo laughs that Lycanroc won't be able to make many more attacks until it collapses.

Akira attempts to use an Antidote for the poison, but Mana says the Pokémon are moving too fast to use it. Lycanroc continues to strike at Salazzle, but, to Napo's amusement, Salazzle keeps dodging it using its speed. Akira tells Lycanroc to limit its own movements, thinking that they still have a chance if they can hit Salazzle just once. Napo smirks that she won't be attacking Lycanroc head-on to give Akira's Pokémon any chance to counterattack. Instead she keeps Lycanroc at a distance, before Salazzle unleashes Venoshock, spraying Lycanroc with poison once again. Lycanroc takes a lot of damage, and the group are shocked at how it could do this to the tough Pokémon. Napo explains that, although Venoshock is normally weak, it does double the damage if the target is already poisoned, as Lycanroc is.

With Lycanroc weakened, Napo says one more attack will finish the battle. Akira, Mana, and Lycanroc brace themselves, and Napo wonders aloud why the group ever attacked the Team King headquarters so directly. She calls Lycanroc stupid for mindlessly coming for Team Kings, and calls Akira stupid for following it when they were no match for the evil organisation.

Angered, Akira shouts not to underestimate Lycanroc, saying not only does it have guts, but it always defies expectations. Napo commands Salazzle to use one more Venoshock, but the enraged Lycanroc charges at Salazzle without any command from Akira. Mana shouts for Lycanroc to calm down. With Tokio watching, Napo says that Lycanroc's actions affirm her negative opinion of it.

Akira commands Lycanroc to use Stone Edge, which brings down sharp rocks on Salazzle and Akira's Pokémon then moves in for closer combat, but Salazzle escapes the Stone Edge using its speed, and Napo calls the Wolf Pokémon too slow. Napo then commands Salazzle to use another Venoshock and says the battle is over, but Akira grins as he sees Lycanroc using a large rock to block the Venoshock's poison as it moves in closer.

To Napo's disbelief, Akira shouts for Lycanroc to forge its own path to defy expectations, and her Pokémon is hit powerfully by Lycanroc, and smashes the Team Kings doors as it flies backwards.

Akira and Mana celebrate, as Napo looks behind her at the smashed entrance and graciously concedes defeat. Napo then laughs that she was joking and would never concede defeat that easily, and is joined by her Salazzle. Akira fears a Z-Move is coming from his opponent, but Tokio and Type: Null step forward, saying the battle is over and that Napo should leave.

With Napo gone, the group confront Tokio about him being a member of Team Kings, and that Akira and Lycanroc won't lose to him again like the last time they battled. Tokio turns around, uninterested in the battle. He says to Akira that if it's Team Kings they want to beat, he will take them to the leader of Team Kings.
