Each player who has any Tera Pokémon in play can have up to 8 Pokémon on their Bench.
If a player no longer has any Tera Pokémon in play, that player discards Pokémon from their Bench until they have 5. When this card leaves play, both players discard Pokémon from their Bench until they have 5, and the player who played this card discards first.

Rulings
Area Zero Underdepths's effect of expanding the Bench from 5 to 8 applies to each player's in-play zone if and only if they have a Tera Pokémon in play. Thus, when Area Zero Underdepths is in play, the following rules apply:
- If a player has no Tera Pokémon in play and 4 Benched Pokémon, and they use a card effect that allows them to put more than 1 Pokémon to the Bench at once (eg. Falinks's "Form Ranks" attack), they can only put 1 Pokémon to the Bench even if the Pokémon being put to the Bench is a Tera Pokémon.[1][2] Only once the Tera Pokémon is in play does Area Zero Underdepths's effect apply for that player.
- If a player has a Tera Pokémon in the Active Spot and more than 5 Benched non-Tera Pokémon, and their Active Tera Pokémon is Knocked Out or otherwise removed from play, the player must discard their Benched Pokémon down to 5 first before promoting a new Active Pokémon, such that once the effect resolves, the player will have an Active Pokémon and 4 Benched Pokémon.[1][2][3]
- If a player has a damaged Benched Tera Evolution Pokémon and more than 5 Benched Pokémon (including the Tera Pokémon), and if their opponent uses Technical Machine: Devolution to devolve the player's Tera Pokémon, the player discards their Benched Pokémon down to 5 first before resolving any other effects. Thus, the player may choose to discard the damaged Benched Pokémon that was just devolved; if the damaged Pokémon is discarded in this way, it is not considered Knocked Out, and the opponent does not take any Prize cards for it.[2][3]
- Replacing an Area Zero Underdepths in play with Sky Field and vice versa will not change the number of Bench slots on either players' in-play zone, so long as all the requirements for either Stadium are fulfilled.[1]
