2021-23 Standard format (TCG)

The 2021-23 Standard format of the Pokémon Trading Card Game is the Standard format that was used for Play! Pokémon organized play and in most sanctioned tournaments worldwide between September 10, 2021 and April 13, 2023. It was also used in Pokémon Trading Card Game Online and Pokémon Trading Card Game Live. This was the final rotation to rotate out cards based on what expansion they belonged to; future rotations would rotate cards out based on the regulation mark on the cards.
This was the final Standard format supported in Pokémon TCG Online. The client was not updated for cards released in Scarlet & Violet and later sets, nor was the errata separating Pokémon Tools from Items implemented.
When this format was used in TPCi regions, card legality could be effectively determined by whether any regulation mark was present. Because Sun & Moon Series cards were not printed with regulation marks in TPCi regions, the legal card pool was exactly "every card with any regulation mark", plus a handful of reprints.
Play period
The 2021-23 Standard format was announced on April 21, 2021, rotating out the remaining Sun & Moon Series sets from Team Up to Cosmic Eclipse.
- Worldwide: September 10, 2021 - April 13, 2023
This is the second Standard format to be played in three calendar years rather than the typical two, as there was no rotation following the 2022 World Championships.
Rule changes
All remaining Sun & Moon Series cards are rotated out. Sword & Shield Series cards with a
,
, or
regulation mark remain legal.
With the removal of all Sun & Moon Series cards and no Fairy-type Pokémon being printed in the Sword & Shield Series, Basic Fairy Energy was also rotated out.
