When | When a Defender is knocked out of a Gym, the player receives {{PCoin}}1 for every 10 minutes it spent defending, rounded down. However, the player cannot earn more than {{PCoin}}50 per day this way (which would require a cumulative 8 hours and 20 minutes spent defending). Earnings toward the daily limit apply to the day the Defender Pokémon is knocked out of the Gym, not the day it was put in. If a Pokémon was placed in the Gym on Monday night, and it was knocked out Tuesday morning, the PokéCoins earned will count towards Tuesday's daily limit. | ||

PokéCoins (Japanese: ポケコイン PokéCoin) are the in-app currency used in Pokémon GO. There are two ways of obtaining PokéCoins: the Defender bonus from a Gym, or by purchasing them with real money.
PokéCoins can be redeemed for several different kinds of items and upgrades in the Shop or for clothing in the style menu.
Defender bonus
When a Defender is knocked out of a Gym, the player receives 1 for every 10 minutes it spent defending, rounded down. However, the player cannot earn more than 50 per day this way (which would require a cumulative 8 hours and 20 minutes spent defending).
