Animal Crossing Wiki joins NIWA

Nookipedia, originally known as Animal Crossing Wiki, is a wiki devoted to Nintendo's Animal Crossing game series. It was formed from a merged of two separate wikis.

History

The wiki was formed from a merger of two separate wikis.

The first wiki, Animal Crossing City, was originally founded on Wikia by Aeryka in August 2005.

The second wiki, Animal Crossing Wiki, was founded on July 12, 2010 on the (now defunct) animalcrossingforums.net by Jake. It was affiliated with the Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance from early in its creation. After a database error with no backup caused a large data loss, it reopened in October 23, 2010.

In 2010, when Wikia made the new skin Oasis mandatory, many wikis left, including Animal Crossing City. Initially, Animal Crossing City were to move to the wiki farm ShoutWiki. Shortly after doing so, Animal Crossing City got in contact with the Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance, and decided on a merge with Animal Crossing Wiki. The merge took place in late 2010, and the merged wiki was named Animal Crossing Wiki. Shortly after, on November 19, 2010, Animal Crossing Wiki joined the Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance.

On December 31, 2010, the wiki changed its name to Nookipedia, a portmanteau of their mascot Tom Nook (a major character in the game) and encyclopedia. The website had also been redone in the process. The wiki obtained a new logo around its 10th anniversary of its independence, and the wiki has become a prominent contributor to the ACNH Spreadsheet, a comprehensive spreadsheet of all the items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
