SmashWiki is a wiki devoted to the Super Smash Bros. series of games that is a member of the Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance. Unlike with the wikis for the constituent series of Smash Bros., such as Bulbapedia, SmashWiki extensively covers technical and competitive aspects of the games, and provides analyses of each game's characters and stages.

History

SmashWiki was created from the merger of two separate wikis. The first wiki, also named SmashWiki, was founded on SmashBoards by Gideon; it was created in December 2005 (the earliest known edit being August 12, 2006) and it was officially launched on March 5, 2007. The second wiki, the Super Smash Bros. Wiki, was founded on Wikia by Alexir55 on April 2, 2007. On February 29, 2008, the two wikis merged, taking the name SmashWiki but being hosted on Wikia.

In September 2010, due to disagreement with the changes to the policies of Wikia, as with many other NIWA members such as Pikipedia, Pikmin Fanon, F-Zero Wiki and Golden Sun Universe, SmashWiki was moved to its current domain as an independent wiki with the help of Super Mario Wiki head Porplemontage. The wiki remaining on Wikia was renamed to SmashWikia (later renamed Smashpedia in September 2013).

SmashWiki joined the Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance on October 29, 2010.

In July 2018, several months before the release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Wesley777i, an administrator of SmashPedia, a Spanish Smash Bros. wiki, which was planning on forking from Wikia/FANDOM with the help of WikiDex, for the similar reasons the English SmashWiki experienced, proposed an affiliation with, and borrow of the ssbwiki.com domain from SmashWiki. The proposal was passed, and SmashPedia was successfully moved to its current domain as an independent wiki in the next month.
