The Nintendo 3DS (Japanese: ニンテンド３ＤＳ Nintendo 3DS) is Nintendo's tentatively-named upcoming eighth generation handheld game console.

Announced in a March 23, 2010 press release, the Nintendo 3DS is said to be fully backwards-compatible with all Nintendo DS games. Its revolutionary feature, however, is that it will be able to display 3D graphics that will appear to move in space depending on the direction that the system is facing, possibly using a facial tracking technology.

More details on the 3DS will be released, according to the press release, at E3 in 2010. Many presume that the upcoming Generation V games, which are announced to be for the Nintendo DS, will have enhancement on the 3DS, much as Pokémon Gold and Silver were playable on the Game Boy, but with specific features that enhanced them on the Game Boy Color, and their third version, Crystal, exclusive to that system.
