Drake's Dragonite (Japanese: ユウジのカイリュー Yūji's Kairyu) is Drake's main Pokémon in the Pokémon anime. Drake keeps Dragonite's Poké Ball around his neck.

In the anime

Dragonite first appeared in Hello, Pummelo!, when it was seen flying around the island. Later when Team Rocket tried to steal Dragonite, they were sent blasting off from its Hyper Beam attack.

In Enter The Dragonite, Drake used Dragonite as his final Pokémon in his battle against Ash. It was shown to be a very strong battler. With its impressive speed and power, it was able to take out Charizard, Squirtle, and Tauros, although all three managed to land at least one blow on Dragonite before they fainted. Even though it fought three of Ash's Pokémon, it was still able to defeat Team Rocket when they tried another attempt at capturing it when it was tired out.

It then had to battle Pikachu in the last round of the match. Despite being tired out from the previous battles, it managed to put up a good fight against Pikachu, but, after a fierce battle, it was defeated by Pikachu's use of a Thunder attack while positioned on Dragonite's head, and Ash became an Honored Trainer of the Orange League.

Personality and characteristics

As Drake's main Pokémon, he modeled a statue out of it and usually keeps its Poké Ball around his neck. During battle, Dragonite was shown to be unstoppable as it defeated many Trainers prior to battling Ash, as well as Dragonite knowing and using ten moves at once. Even though it lost to Ash's Pikachu, Dragonite still had the strength to defeat half of Ash's team.

The Electric Tale of Pikachu

Dragonite makes an appearance in The Electric Tale of Pikachu. It appeared in The Orange Crew Supreme Gym Leader and Pikachu's Plan, where it was the last Pokémon Drake used to battle Ash. It went up against Squirtle as its first opponent and won easily. Charizard was next, and after a long battle, Dragonite emerged victorious. Lastly, it battled Pikachu and lost when Pikachu crawled into its mouth and used Thunder, giving Ash the victory.

Trivia

• Dragonite used ten different moves during one episode. This was done by the writer of the episode, Atsuhiro Tomioka, to make Dragonite seem more unstoppable.
