Synopsis

Template:Incomplete synopsis With Sunyshore Gym fully repaired, Ash is ready to finally battle Volkner for the Beacon Badge, the final Gym Badge he needs to enter the Sinnoh League. However, as the final Gym Leader before the league, Volkner won't be so easy to beat. The robotic referee starts the match off. Ash chooses his Torterra and Volkner chooses his Electivire. Ash starts by ordering a Leaf Storm form Torterra but Volkner has Electivire use Fire Punch to burn the leaves up. Ash makes a plan and tells Torterra to use Leaf Storm again and Electivire again uses Fire Punch to burn the leaves up, however, Ash has Torterra use Energy Ball in quick succession and this time, the attack makes a hit. Electivire doesn't appear to be harmed. Ash has Torterra use Rock Climb to fill the terrain with rock pillars and a pillar comes out from under Electivire's feet. As Torterra climbs up the pillar, Volkner has Electivire use Ice Punch and the attack makes a clean hit. Torterra being part Grass type gets frozen quite easily and falls down to the ground. When it falls, the ice breaks and it is seen that Torterra is unconscious. The match goes to Volkner. Ash decides to send out his Pikachu to fight Electivire. Pikachu uses Quick Attack and Electivire counters with Fire Punch. Pikachu dodges and uses Thunderbolt. This triggers Electivire's Motor Drive ability which makes it immune to Electric attacks. Pikachu uses another Thunderbolt but with no avail. Realizing that Electric attacks won't work, Ash orders an Iron Tail from Pikachu but this triggers the second effect of Motor Drive which boosts Electivire's speed. After running circles around Pikachu, Electivire uses Fire Punch but Pikachu dodges it. Electivire uses Ice Punch in quick succession and this time, the attack hits. This triggers Pikachu's Static ability which immobilizes Electivire's left arm. Electivire uses another Ice Punch and Pikachu dodges, but while dodging, Pikachu's tail touches Electivire's leg and immobilizes it. Electivire uses another Ice Punch and Pikachu counters with Iron Tail. The two attacks collide and the rest of Electivire's body immobilizes making it completely paralyzed. Pikachu uses one final Iron Tail which hits Electivire in the face and knocks it out, giving Ash the victory.
