Route 7 is an extremely short road that connects Saffron City in the east to Celadon City in the west. In Generation I and Generation III, the thirsty guard at the lookout station on the west side of Saffron will not let anyone pass through to Saffron until some gets them a drink (Tea in Generation III or Lemonade, Water, or Soda Pop in Generation I) from Celadon.

Route description

From the guard house separating Saffron from Route 8, the route heads west, passing a field of grass and the building housing the Underground Path before turning north, then west into Celadon.

The Underground Path on Route 7 travels under Saffron and comes out on Route 8 in the east, just east of the East Saffron guard house.

Route 7 is the shortest route of all to this point in Pokémon history.

Differences among generations

Route 7 in Generation I.

Route 7 in Generation II.

The only change made to Route 7 in Generations I and III was minor cosmetic changes such as the amount of grass increasing.

in Generation II, the Underground Path is closed due to vandalism.

In Generation IV, the layout is different to that of previous generations. The ledge area at the end of the route is no longer the end of the route as the left side is blocked off by trees and has greatly decreased in size and the pathway extends past the area to a set of stairs that leads to Celadon City. The grass patch area also has increased in size slightly and there is no longer grass before the guard house door.
