Dawn's Piloswine (Japanese: ヒカリイノムー Hikari's Inomoo) was the fifth Pokémon captured by Dawn in the anime, and her sixth Pokémon in all. As a Swinub, it was voiced by Tomoe Hanba in Japanese, and its English voice actress is Kayzie Rogers.

Piloswine's debut was in Hungry for the Good Life! as a Swinub. It appeared at Mr. Backlot's mansion and comes from a nearby forest. It caused trouble by devouring all of Dawn's Poffins, much to the displeasure of Dawn's other Pokémon. This revealed its gluttonous nature. However, after helping take down Team Rocket and rescue the other Pokémon, Dawn decided she wanted Swinub to go with her.

In DP095, Swinub watched its first contest when it saw Dawn, Buneary and Ambipom work together to win the Celestic Town Pokémon Contest.

Swinub evolved into Piloswine in DP104 in a battle against Team Rocket. After evolving, Piloswine is still very affectionate towards Dawn, as seen in DP105 where it practically squished her.

Trivia

  • Piloswine, alongside Ash's Gliscor, is the only Pokémon in the parties of Ash and his friends to be absent from the original Sinnoh Dex (though Jessie of Team Rocket has Yanmega, Seviper, and Wobbuffet, and Paul owns Electabuzz, Ursaring, and Gliscor).
  • Piloswine is the first capture Dawn has made since Buizel, exactly 50 episodes before. It is also her only capture in which she didn't battle the Pokémon twice, or even at all.
  • Piloswine is the fifth, and most recent, Pokémon introduced in Generation II that is in the party of a member of the main cast during the Diamond & Pearl series.
  • Piloswine is also the second Pokémon that Dawn owns that was introduced in a generation other than the one she was introduced in, after Aipom. Like Aipom, Piloswine has a Generation IV evolved form.
  • It's interesting to note that Dawn's best friend, Leona, owns three Swinub of her own.
  • Piloswine has some similarities with May's Munchlax: Piloswine loves to eat mass quantities of Poffin; likewise, May's Munchlax enjoys mass quantities of Pokéblock (the Generation III counterpart of the Poffin).
  • So far, Piloswine is Dawn's only dual-type Pokémon.
  • Piloswine is Dawn's second evolved Pokémon, the first being Ambipom.
  • DP104, the episode in which Swinub evolves into Piloswine, first aired in Japan in the same week that Hungry For the Good Life!, the episode in which Swinub is captured, first aired in the United States. The same thing happened to Ash's Gliscor.
  • Piloswine is the first Pokémon in the current saga to appear evolved in an opening prior to its actual evolution being shown. Furthermore, it was as a Mamoswine. Therefore, Piloswine is one of few Pokémon to be owned by a main cast member but not ever appear in an opening in that form.
