Brianna

Brianna (Japanese: ワカナ Wakana) is a minor recurring character who appeared in Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire. She is a Pokémon Coordinator.

Following the Wisteria Town Contest in Harley Rides Again, May received a letter from an anonymous sender. However, Brianna forgot to sign it and, as the letter came with a rose, May thought that the letter was from her rival Drew. May kept the letter until she met Brianna, who revealed that she was the sender, on Chrysanthemum Island shortly before another Contest in Spontaneous Combusken!.

Brianna first appeared in Spontaneous Combusken!, where she revealed that she was too nervous to face May in person, so she sent the letter instead. Her true motives were soon revealed by her crush on Drew. Brianna believed that the best way to get Drew's attention was to defeat May in a Contest. She did not let the subject drop and, after they both got through their Appeals, Brianna asked May about her feelings for Drew, causing May to blush and stutter that she hadn't thought about it much. After her Contest defeat to May in the finals, Drew assured Brianna that she was a good Coordinator, causing her to faint in May's arms.

Brianna reappeared in Thinning the Hoard!, where she was seen watching the Kanto Grand Festival from her home. Her home is shown to have various pictures of her, Drew, and May.

Character

Brianna is a sweet, nervous girl at first. She uses reverent honorifics for people she respects, as shown with Drew, and she'll even hide behind people if she feels nervous in a social setting with someone she respects. However, Brianna has a contrasting side to her- when competitive (be it in battle or what Brianna perceives as a romantic rivalry), Brianna is fiery and outspoken. She will verbally push her rival and poke for a response, stubborn and unyielding. Brianna is not afraid to take action for her own goals regardless of the response she might get, as shown in her stating that she will confess her feelings to Drew if she wins against May (she does not win). Overall, she is a mix of sweet and stubborn, reverent and rivalrous.

		Surskit
		Surskit was used in the Appeals round of the Chrysanthemum Island Pokémon Contest, where its ice skating performance allowed Brianna to move onto the second round. Surskit's known moves are Agility and Ice Beam.

		Vibrava
		Vibrava was used during the Contest Battle rounds where it was able to sweep most opponents to reach the finals. In the final stage, Vibrava had to go up against May's Combusken. Vibrava was able to trap Combusken with Sand Tomb, but Combusken was able to escape with its newly learned move, Mega Kick. Combusken was then able to defeat Vibrava and May won herself a Ribbon. Vibrava's known moves are Screech, Dragon Breath, and Sand Tomb.

• Brianna's Pokémon are both pre-evolved forms of Pokémon Drew owns. This seems to emphasize her admiration of Drew.
