Hyōshokutai (Japanese: 氷蝕体) is a giant ice creature that resembles a snowflake which appears in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Magnagate and the Infinite Labyrinth. It dwells at the top of the (Japanese: グレッシャーパレス大結晶の塔 Glacier Palace Crystal Tower) where it attempts to plunge the world into darkness. Hyōshokutai is not a Pokémon, and is the first non-Pokémon in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series.

The player encounters this creature immediately after battling Kyurem.

When the player first arrives in the room where Hyōshokutai lurks, Hyōshokutai will unleash a powerful force that greatly weakens the player's partner and is unable to fight Hyōshokutai, fortunately the player is unaffected by the powerful force that Hyōshokutai exerts, so the player has to fight Hyōshokutai alone throughout the entire battle.

During the start of the battle, Hyōshokutai will be immune to any damage dealt to it. This will continue for a few turns, then the battle ends. Which afterwards will start a cutscene where Hyōshokutai will unleash a dark power from it's body and from the top of the Glacier Palace Crystal Tower will have dark purple clouds surrounding the top of the palace, attempting to plunge the world into darkness. Then it shows everyone in (Japanese: ポケモンパラダイス Pokémon Paradise) watching the palace from the distance and seeing the darkness coming from it makes them very shocked and then a discussion goes on and then it goes back to the player in Hyōshokutai's room where the player tries very hard to get back up, and then successfully manages to and makes a dash towards Hyōshokutai and attacks it's front, which then it's front part cracks, the player attacks again and shatters the front part of it, revealing it's red core. The darkness around the palace disappears and a small rainbow appears at the top, then it shows the Pokémon in Pokémon Paradise again, which they notice that the darkness has disappeared from the palace and then having another bit of a discussion. But then the screen switches back to viewing the palace again, where the darkness comes back around the palace again. The screen then switches back to the player, where the real battle begins.

During this battle, the player will be able to deal damage to Hyōshokutai, however after couple of turns, Hyōshokutai will warp the player to some area outside of it's room, where it's still covered in darkness and with a box to store items into. To begin the next phrase of the battle, the player must head back into Hyōshokutai's room, which is just in front of the player, next to the box where the player store your items in. The battle starts again, when the player defeats Hyōshokutai again, this time Hyōshokutai will shatter and the darkness disappears from the Glacier Palace Crystal Tower once again.

Then the player's partner will get back up again, the palace starts to crack and break apart and palace also starts falling from the sky, which then starts the ending of the game.

Attacks used

  • Hyōshokutai uses some dark energy burst which causes damage to the player and may cause Confusion.

Trivia

  • Hyōshokutai is the second creature in the entire Pokémon series that is not a Pokémon, despite being the first non-Pokémon in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series. The first creature that wasn't a Pokémon was Dark Rust, which appeared in Pokémon Rumble Blast.
