Starter Pokémon

I can confirm beyond the shadow of a doubt that your Pokemon doesn't have to be your starter (or even have you as it's OT) to learn Frenzy Plant and the like. I started a LeafGreen about a year ago, and played through it as if it was Yellow. That is, I traded off my Starter for a Pokemon holding a Light Ball and gave it to a Pikachu I caught in Viridian Forest. When I got to Cerulean, I traded a Bulbasaur to my game that had been chosen as a starter in a different game. Same when I got to Nugget Bridge, and beat Surge for Charmander and Squirtle. Now, when I got to Two Island, ALL THREE of them could learn and did learn their respective moves. I should note that my offical starter (the one I chose and traded off as soon as I got Pikachu) was Charmander, and the Charmander I used wasn't even that same Charmander. All it requires is a high enough happiness from the final forms of the Kanto Starters, not that they are the Pokemon you chose at the beginning of the game.

Bleh, that's a lot of text. In I just bolded the important part.

That's interesting. Did you also confirm the final starter part? I have seen on some sites that the non-final stages can also learn the move. - 振霖T 07:53, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Well, the Johto starters can learn their represive moves in XD. -Groudon465 12:35 p.m. 12 October 2007 (CT)

Strongest Grass Attack

I thought Solar Beam was the strongest grass attack but comparing its base power with that of Frenzy Plant, isn't Frenzy Plant the strongest grass-attack?--Jmath 11:16, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Yes, and it has been since FRLG. Zurqoxn 17:34, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Name

From all trio elemental hyper beam isn't Frenzy plant was the only one with have english name different from japanese name? Aquarian 12:39, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Zorua as Tangrowth use this move in M13.

Prerequisite

Bill showed up and took me to One Island right after I got my seventh badge, on Cinnabar. When I went to Two Island, the move tutor wouldn't teach my Venusaur Frenzy Plant. But I went back after getting my eighth badge in Viridian, and this time she taught the move. Not sure if you need all eight badges for all three types of moves (though I would assume so), and I don't know if it's a requirement in other generations (I haven't played anything beyond G3). But maybe this requirement should be mentioned in the article? Teknomage (talk) 23:16, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

Happiness is what causes the Pokémon to learn the move. Nothing else. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 23:20, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
So it's a complete coincidence that my pokemon's happiness increased sufficiently solely by virtue of having gained an eighth badge? Man, crazy universe we live in. But that's why I asked in discussion instead of just editing the article with the info based on the evidence at my disposal. Because I am used to the universe being crazy. Muahahahaha, that that, Universe! You've lost the element of surprise! Teknomage (talk) 00:05, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
