Character of the day: Wattson
- Wattson (Japanese: テッセン Tessen) is the Gym Leader of the Mauville City Gym. He specializes in Electric-type Pokémon, and gives away the Dynamo Badge to Pokémon trainers that successfully defeat him.
- His title is "The cheerfully electrifying man!"
- In the games, Wattson has the player run an errand to turn off the power generator in New Mauville. Once this is accomplished, he will reward the player's efforts with TM24 (Thunderbolt)
- Wattson made his debut in the anime in Watt's with Wattson? where Ash challenged him and easily knocked out all of Wattson's Pokémon one after the other. This defeat left Wattson unmotivated and depressed, until he befriended a wild Electrike and helped Ash rescue a bunch of Electric-type Pokémon from Team Rocket. He then reappeared in Manectric Charge where his Electrike evolves into a Manectric and he and Ash have a rematch.
- In the manga, Wattson accidentally mistakes Sapphire for a Donphan. He is later rescued by the young trainer, and he rewards her with a Dynamo Badge. He is rescued by Sapphire again when he is knocked into the sea by a Shedinja as he was fighting against Kyogre, and her Wailord comes to his aide.
- He is the second out of four Electric-type gym leaders, and appears to be the oldest.
