Trivia
- This episode aired in the US exactly one year and one day from its Japanese airing.
- The English title to this episode is based on the saying One Trick Pony.
- This is the first time Jessie uses a Charizard in a battle. The other is in Grating Spaces.
- When Blastoise gets attacked by Pikachu's Thunderbolt, Jessie commands it to use Withdraw and this move protects Blastoise from being hurt. However, Thunderbolt is a special move in all generations and using a Defense-raising move could not protect it from Thunderbolt.
- Misty remarks that Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise are the fully evolved forms of Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle, all Pokémon he has owned. To be more specific, Ash has even owned a Charizard itself, as his Charmander eventually evolved into Charizard.
Errors
- In the beginning of the episode, Ash battled a female trainer with a Smoochum with the nickname Josephine. Later, when Pikachu attacks the Smoochum, it can be heard saying "Jo", part of its nickname, rather than its name.
