A blue pentagon[1][2] (Japanese: 五角形のマーク blue pentagon mark[3]) is an icon displayed on the summary screen of Pokémon obtained in the Generation VI games. Pokémon that are hatched, caught, or received as a gift in a Generation VI game will have a blue pentagon icon on their summary screen near the markings. Prior to the release of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, having a blue pentagon was referred to as being Kalos native.[4]

This icon still appears on applicable Pokémon in the Generation VII games, but it is colored black instead of blue.

Pokémon transferred to Generation VI via Poké Transporter do not have this icon, although Pokémon bred from them do.

All Pokémon that exist in Generation VI can have the blue pentagon mark, as each of them can be obtained in Generation VI or have been distributed as an event Pokémon to Generation VI games.

Function

In official tournaments in Generation VI, as well as at the Battle Spot in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, only Pokémon with a blue pentagon can be used. Pokémon without one can be filtered out from the list of Pokémon in Pokémon Bank's list mode.

In Pokémon X and Y, if the player has owned a species of Pokémon, but only a Pokémon that does not have a blue pentagon, it will be marked in the Pokédex differently. The player will receive a crown on the Pokédex screen for each of the Kalos Pokédexes only if the Pokédex is completed using only Pokémon that have a blue pentagon. The player will receive a different diploma for a Pokédex completed using Pokémon without a blue pentagon. It is still possible to obtain a crown and get the normal diploma if the Pokédex is later completed using only Pokémon with a blue pentagon.

Similar icons

Pokémon met in the Generation VII games instead have the black clover (also known as the Alola symbol). Some official tournaments require that Pokémon have this mark.

Pokémon transported from the Virtual Console Generation I games have an icon which resembles a Game Boy (File:GB icon.png).
