Section 02: The Pokédex and Mystery Egg

New Bark Town

You start off in your room. Walk downstairs and you will be greeted by your mother who walks you through and adds to the menu on the bottom of the screen. You may now exit the house.

First a Marill runs towards you, but it turns out to be Kotone's/Gold's. She/he asks for it to come back, then runs off. If you speak to the suspicious boy, he tells you to get lost, then pushes you back. Now go into the lab! Go to Professor Elm, and he lets you have a Pokémon. They will all be at level 5. Choose carefully, as it will affect your gameplay.

Name Type Effective Against
152 Chikorita Grass Water
155 Cyndaquil Fire Grass
158 Totodile Water Fire

Professor Elm told you to go Mr. Pokémon's house, so head for Route 29. What? Before you leave, the aide gives you five Potions. When you head back to town, Kotone comes to you for a chat. Then you have to go see your mother and get the PokéGear. She will then ask you if you want to her to save money throughout your journey. This can be helpful for you since she'll buy items from time to time. As you head for Route 29, Professor Elm will come out and give you his number. C'mon, let's start!

Route 29

Head through the grass, and battle against wild Pokémon. This is so you can train up your new Pokémon. When you are finished, you can go to Cherrygrove City.

Once you get there, an old man shows you to the Pokémon Center and the Poké Mart. Once he is finished, he gives you the Town Map. Now, head to Route 30. What's this? The old man again? But this time, you get the running shoes. In the bottom of the screen you may touch the shoes to put them on automatically.

Route 30

More chances to train your Pokémon! Try get to Level 8 by the time you get to Mr. Pokémon's house. First you'll see a house with a man who likes berries. If he’s kind enough, he may give you some. TIP: If you didn’t start off with Cyndaquil, Pigdey would be a good choice up against Bugsy, the second gym leader. Head into the house up north - it's Mr. Pokémon's house.

Mr. Pokémon gives you a mysterious egg - Togepi will hatch from it. Afterward, Professor Oak comes over, and gives you a lecture. Long story short, he gives you the Pokédex. Mr. Pokémon will also heal your Pokémon. Now, head out.

As soon as you step out,Professor Elm will call and tell you to quickly head back to the lab as he is in urgent trouble.

Cherrygrove City

Once you head out of Cherrygrove, you meet a thief. He's got a Pokémon, so be careful! He's got the Pokémon with the type advantage against your own, so beware. Once you win (or lose) your rival runs off. That reminds me - what about Professor Elm?

New Bark Town

Wah? A Pokémon has been stolen? Tell the policeman the thief's name, then chat to Professor Elm. Once you're finished, head out of the lab, and start your journey to Violet City!
