Surely due to gender differences Heracross should be Male and if they were to reveal that if they made it female that won't be right. If the writers of the anime wanted Heracross to be female they would change its appearance so I think we can change it to Male. User Ratchet and Clank 1995
:Heracross was introduced at a time when there were no gender differences. They're unlikely to just flat out change an existing Pokémon just because, but they get a chance to when one evolves. So unless Pokémon which debuted before DP001 have been first seen after an evolution in DP001 or later then we can't use gender differences as a reliable means of determining gender. I also know that Kenji-Girl, the leader of project anime, is iffy about using the gender differences to determine gender if the individual in question exhibits the trait which all members of that species were before gen IV. If, for example, they had decided to make Ash's Pikachu female, they couldn't really just suddenly change the shape of Pikachu's tail, especially given that it had become rather prominent with Iron Tail. It'd likely be the same for his other Pokémon. [[User:Werdnae|Werdnae]] [[User talk:Werdnae|(talk)]] 19:41, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

Wasn't Ash's Heracross using an ability known as {{a|Swarm}}? In some instances as in when it battled Spencer's Venasaur, Heracross's {{m|Megahorn}} was very powerful and gave heavy damage to it's foes. Also, Ash commanded the beetle Pokémon to use the move during his sinnoh league battle against Nando's Kricketune (despite {{m|Horn Attack}} being used beforehand).

I'm getting sick of having to correct it. If you actually watch the episode, you'll see that Ash returns Snorlax into the Poké Ball in his right hand, and then looks in surprise at the Poké Ball in his left, saying he didn't request that one. Therefore it can't possibly have been Snorlax that was sent. Follow this up with the scene where Barry is attacked by an unknown Pokémon, which isn't revealed to the viewer until Ash finds her, it is undisputable that Bayleef was sent instead of Heracross. Consider their personalities also - Bayleef misses Ash terribly, wheras Heracross is easily distracted and Snorlax very lazy. I doubt very much that Snorlax or Cyndaquil would be likely to get themselves transferred to Ash over Bayleef. Megahorn in Sappy ending?

Any proof of this? I don't recall Ash's Heracross doing Megahorn until the Silver Conference.

It never used Megahorn in A Sappy Ending, it first used it in the Silver Conference.

It seems that someone was using gender differences to determine the gender of a Pokémon which was introduced before generation IV, and has not evolved since the start of gen IV. Again. Removed. Thanks for pointing it out. Werdnae (talk) 06:33, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Heracross was introduced at a time when there were no gender differences. They're unlikely to just flat out change an existing Pokémon just because, but they get a chance to when one evolves. So unless Pokémon which debuted before DP001 have been first seen after an evolution in DP001 or later then we can't use gender differences as a reliable means of determining gender. If, for example, they had decided to make Ash's Pikachu female, they couldn't really just suddenly change the shape of Pikachu's tail, especially given that it had become rather prominent with Iron Tail. It looks like Ash's Heracross might be Male because of its gender difference shown in the Diamond and Pearl seasons Gallade User 16:34, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

Ash's Heracross has to appear again, as the female form did not appear until SM121, thus its appearance during the Diamond and Pearl series doesn't not confirm its gender.--ForceFire 16:51, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
It appears that Ash's Heracross is set to reappear in JN068, so it is safe to say, coming from what you said about a female Heracross appearing in SM121, since there are only two forms of Heracross (not including Mega Heracross), and several users from Instagram are showing how Ash's Heracross will reappear[1], with pictures of it looking like a male Heracross, Ash's Heracross looks to be confirmed AS a MALE Heracross
