Trivia
- Ash and his friends decide to use fake names for sake of safety. They are in a restaurant, so they use food as inspiration for their false names. Ash uses the name Tom Ato (a pun of tomato) (Japanese: Ketchup), Misty uses the name Ann Chovy (a pun of anchovy) (Japanese: Chicken Rice), and Brock uses the name Caesar Salad (a blatant pun of caesar salad) (Japanese: Curry Rice).
- This is the first episode where Pikachu reveals its fondness for ketchup.
- This episode reveals Electabuzz and Scyther's apparent dislike towards the color red, but ironically they were exclusive to the Red Version of the first generation games prior to the Yellow Version being released. Scyther also ends up evolving into Scizor, which has a red colorization.
- This is the first time Pikachu uses Thunder.
- During the Ketchup scene Pikachu was voiced by Rachael Lillis.
- When the ketchup is poured on the Yas and Kas gym leaders is similar to what happened in the prom scene in the movie Carrie.
