Revision as of 10:19, 12 April 2012

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon Red and Blue Versions. This walkthrough follows the original Game Boy version, not Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.
The guide for those can be found here.

Cinnabar Island

Cinnabar Island

To the northwest is the Pokémon Mansion, a building left in ruins after a violent genetically-engineered Pokémon broke free of its prison and escaped. Fortunately, the Pokémon Lab to the south was spared, so the Fossil resurrection experiment is still operational. The Cinnabar Gym is locked up tight, so Blaine is out of reach until you locate the Secret Key.

Pokémon Lab

Meeting Room

In the first room, two of the three people are looking to trade. The old man will trade his Electrode for a Raichu, and the woman offers her Tangela for a Venonat.

R-and-D Room

In the middle room, the scientist in the back will give you TM35 (Metronome), an attack that randomly executes any known move.

Testing Room

In the third room, one of the scientists is willing to trade his Seel for a Ponyta.

The scientist with speech problems is the guy to talk to about reviving Fossils. Give him the Helix Fossil to get an Omanyte, or the Dome Fossil to receive a Kabuto. Both are Rock/Water-types that lived in the primordial ocean. Turning over the Old Amber results in the Rock/Flying-type Aerodactyl, king of the prehistoric skies.

Pokémon Mansion

The key to the Gym is lying around somewhere in the decrepit building. Also in the mansion are a handful of journal entries that describe the secret experiment that was conducted on the island. One of the obstacles between you and the Secret Key are the Pokémon statues scattered around. Each one has a hidden switch inside, which opens some doors and closes others when pressed. A handful of Burglars also prowl the wreckage for abandoned items, so be on your guard.

Pokémon Mansion, 1F

1F

Walk straight ahead from the entrance and climb the stairs to the second floor.

Pokémon Mansion, 2F

2F

Flip the switch inside the nearby statue and head to the northeast, where the first journal entry is lying on a table. Beyond that is a Calcium near the east wall. Walk to the northwest room and take the stairs to the 3rd floor.

Pokémon Mansion, 3F

3F

Head east past the statue and through the north door to find an Iron. Go back and flip the statue switch to get past the south door. Battle the scientist and jump off the smaller ledge to the right.

2F

Loop around to the south to find a second journal entry in the southwest room. Take the stairs near the statue to a separate area of the third floor.

Pokémon Mansion, B1F

3F

This area of the third floor holds a Burglar, a third journal entry, and a Max Potion in the southwest corner. Take the stairs back down to the second floor, flip the switch, and climb the stairs in the northwest room.

2F

Approach the scientist again, and jump off the wider ledge to the left to reach the first floor.

1F (south room)

Battle the scientist, grab the Carbos, and take the stairs to the basement.

B1F

Fight the Burglar in the southern room, and pick up the TM14 (Blizzard) near the statue. The final journal entry is also located here. Grab the Full Restore near the floor's southwest corner, and flip the statue switch. Follow the narrow hallway to the northeast to battle one last scientist, and pick up a Rare Candy and TM22 (SolarBeam) on your way to the west side. The Secret Key is lying in the final room.

Cinnabar Gym

CINNABAR GYM
LEADER: BLAINE
The Hot-Headed
Quiz Master!

Blaine and his crew specialize in Template:Type2s, so you can either douse them with Water attacks or put them out with Ground and Rock moves. There's always the possibility of getting burned in this red-hot Gym, so be sure to bring some Burn Heals along, too. It is possible to bypass each Gym Trainer by answering the quiz machines' questions correctly, but why would you want to do that?

Question Answer
Caterpie evolves into Butterfree? Yes
There are 9 certified Pokémon League Badges? No
Poliwag evolves 3 times? No
Are thunder moves effective against ground element-type Pokémon? No
Pokémon of the same kind and level are not identical? Yes
TM28 contains Tombstone? No
Cinnabar Gym
The Volcano Badge

Upon his defeat, Blaine awards you the Volcano Badge, as well as TM38 (Fire Blast). This Badge also heightens your Pokémon's Special stat.

With the Cinnabar Gym challenge behind you, rest your team at the Poké Center and surf north from the pier to reach Route 21.

Route 21

Route 21

There are no items on this ocean route, and only 9 Trainers. Continue north to Pallet Town.

Now that you have traveled almost everywhere in the region, let's tie up some loose ends. Fly back to Cerulean City.
