Sootopolis City is one of the the sixteen cities of Hoenn, the land in which the games Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Pokémon Emerald take place.
"An underwater volcano erupted and forced itself up from the depths. Its crater emerged from the sea and became filled with rainwater. That's how Sootopolis City came into being." Referred to as "The mystical city where history slumbers", Sootopolis plays a major part in the games, as it is the location where the player has their first encounter with a legendary Pokémon, and obtains their final Badge.
Sootopolis has a fantastic night-time view, the stars peer in through the top of the crater. To get around the city, people have to climb many flights of stairs and Dive under the sea. Because of this, many of the locals are in good shape.
In the Pokémon games, Sootopolis can only be reached by diving through an underwater cavern or Flying. In the Pokémon anime, the volcano Sootopolis is built in opens on one side so that ferries can reach it. Sootopolis is surrounded by Route 126.
