Creation

I think this should serve us well. I just gotta make some tweaks and then we gotta get all of the sprites. TTEchidna 07:23, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Problem!

Okay, it works fine for Pokémon with numbers lower than 400. After that, the MS sprites are .png. That's a problem... unless we can make it so that if ndex < 400, it's .gif, and ndex > 400 it's .png? TTEchidna 07:37, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

No, I'm not planning on cheating out of this one. I didn't realize the person who finished broke the standardization so blatantly. I'll upload the remainder as .gif. --Pie ~ 07:41, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Too soon?

Wouldn't it be better to actually upload the sprites before putting the template on the Pokémon pages? Currently, most usages of this template are full of red links. --FabuVinny T-C-S 20:56, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

I'll be uploading the rest of the images soon. The current G/S ones are not correctly colored, the few that are there at least. MK 13:02, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Animated icons

I added a way to include an animated icon instead of the still one. At the end of where you are defining variables, just type:

animated=1|

For example:

Gen Game
I Red Blue Yellow Red (Ja) Green Back
This Pokémon did not appear during Generation I.
II Gold Silver Crystal   Back
This Pokémon did not appear during Generation II.
III Ruby Sapphire Emerald FireRed LeafGreen Back
This Pokémon did not appear during Generation III.
IV Diamond Pearl Platinum HeartGold SoulSilver Back

V Black White Black 2 White 2 Back
Spr 5b 480.png Spr 5b 480.png Spr b 5b 480.png
Spr 5b 480 s.png Spr 5b 480 s.png Spr b 5b 480 s.png
Uxie For other sprites and images, please see Uxie images on Bulbagarden Archives.

The only problem is that the animated icon must be uploaded with the name of:

Ani###MS.gif

Where ### is the Pokémon's National Dex number. The icons for Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf have already been uploaded by me. --Shiny NoctowlTalk | Contribs 01:01, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Continuing from there, TTE uploaded the rest of Generation IV. While I, myself, have uploaded the rest of the other Generations. Agent #448 | This will put you off eating for life! 08:43, 29 November 2007 (UTC) IN OTHER WORDS: THEY ARE DONE...

Remember!!

Remember to set the Gender to "None", instead of both. Both is only for Pokémon that actually have a gender difference - none goes for Male and Female only Pokémon too. Putting both, male or female sets a "m" or "f" next to the filename and such, so even if the D/P sprite is uploaded, it won't show up. Just wanted to put this up here. TinaTheKirlia 18:43, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

It's all because I fail at template creation. TTEchidna 18:49, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Green

Please relabel "Green" as "Red/Green (J)" or something. I'd do it myself but can't for the life of me figure out how to edit this template. MK 12:59, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Did so. TTEchidna 02:03, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

R&S?

There seem to be an awful shortage of R&S Sprites. As they all appear to just be inanimate Emerald Sprites, they can't be that hard to get, can they? Maybe someone could start on that? I would myself, but I'd probably be breaking some rule. --Vladek

Trozei?

I dunno if the Trozei sprites should be in this... they don't really fit with the rest of them, which are main series sprites. Plus, the placement... um, is not good. TTEchidna 01:03, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Yea, if we even are going to have them, they should be placed differently in the template. --Theryguy512 01:05, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

I'd think it'd be best to have a separate, non-main series sprite template for them, so as to include the MD and MD2 sprites, Pinball, Pinball RS, and so on... TTEchidna 01:17, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
But those sprites will go next to the Trozei sprites. What happened to the patience expressed for the first set of sprites? --FabuVinny T-C-S 02:38, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Well, remember, not everything's available in Pinball/RS, and the means of showing the MD/2 sprites would make it difficult... plus it'd be an issue to include all of those on the same line if they're in different generations and stuff. Maybe adding a (gamename) parameter to the template for each game, then on "no" have "This Pokémon did not appear in (game name)", and on yes, have the sprite.
Let's see... we have Trozei, Pinball, Pinball RS, MD1, and MD2, right? So essentially, it'd just be
Sprites
Gen Main series games
I Red Blue Yellow Red (Ja) Green Back
II Gold Silver Crystal   Back
III Ruby Sapphire Emerald FireRed LeafGreen Back
IV Diamond Pearl   Back
  Side games
Pinball Pinball R&S MD MD2 Trozei
{{{pinball}}} {{{pinballrs}}} {{{md}}} {{{md2}}} {{{trozei}}}

One of them, of course, would get a colspan of 2, just to keep consistency with the rest of the table. I would, however, definitely say we shouldn't include the side game series with the main, generation-driven subtemplates, since these games aren't totally dependent on their generation of release (Pinball RS has Totodile and Cyndaquil, but no Feraligatr or Typhlosion). We'll likely have to dip into the if-testers... or something, I dunno. Maybe if we mess around enough we can make a side-series subtemplate for it, at the very least. Yes? No? TTEchidna 04:35, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Gah! I've just realised that the Pinball games would be even more complicated since all Pokémon in the game's dex get a portrait but those only available through evolution don't get a sprite.
With that said, Trozei and Mystery Dungeon are easy since they have equal sprites for all 386. And there's already a set of Gen I Trozei sprites up on the Archives... --FabuVinny T-C-S 20:56, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Hmm. So we'll have to do something special there. Ah well. We can figure it out soon. How about the table setup we have now, and for Pinball and Pinball RS, we'd have something that'll tell whether it's an evolved/unevolved Pokémon in them? TTEchidnaFire echyGSDS! 01:30, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
I've discovered one saving grace: All the Pokémon that appear in both Pinball games do not change whether they have a sprite or not, despite a lot more middle evolutions getting one in Pinball RS. So we can set up that and whether they are in the hdex seperately. --FabuVinny T-C-S 22:20, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

...and Deoxys isn't in Pinball RS in any form. *sigh* The sprites are uploaded here but setting them up on Bulbapedia is beyond me. --FabuVinny T-C-S 22:03, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

As you may have noticed, the recent addition of images to Side game has solved this problem. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 10:37, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Now to just add the ndex number to them all... TTEchidna 16:14, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
I did that while inserting the Pinball sections. 'Twas not an issue. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 19:45, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Footprints

Any chance of editing this thing so we can add footprint sprites later on? I'd give it a go myslef, but I'll just end up making a freaking big mess...--Manga-in-a-bottle 02:10, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

I personally think it should go in the Pokémon Infobox... TTEchidna 02:24, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Yea, same. --Theryguy512 11:56, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

needs going over

On a lot of Pokémon page its just a block of broken links.

-Lord Mada-

It's not a problem with the template. It's that the sprites aren't uploaded. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 19:53, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Current technical issues with the Archives don't help either... --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 10:37, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Platinum

should we add a 'platinum' section to the box? OrigamiGuy-Talk-Contribs 18:06, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Not until we actually have access to said sprites. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 19:42, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
I added the new Giratina sprite too the Giratina page...That counts as a Platinum Sprite! Takoto タコト| サソデイ = 愛 19:48, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
1) That is besides the point. We still have to wait to get the rest of them.
2) The name of the image doesn't use the coding of the sprite table anyway. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 19:59, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
I think that adding Platinum to the chart will harm no one, and sprites will just be added later. hfc2X 23:48, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
A lot of broken image links is what we don't want. Until the game is out, it is utterly pointless and just makes the table look bad. And as I am currently making efforts to fix that problem in the Gen IV section, I would personally find this move extremely annoying. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 23:53, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Eh, we've got a bunch of broken imagelinks anyway, what are 492 more gonna hurt?
I also wanted to add... there must be a way of putting the Pokémon's secondary type color in the template somewhere... TTEchidna 02:48, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Anyone, suggestions for how the secondary type can be added? TTEchidna 03:24, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
Primary background, secondary border? Posted by the Θρtιmαtum♏Talk|Links07:48 18 May 2008
what about on the left side? (the 'generations' border) hfc2X 22:35, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
I was thinking it could be the Generations heading, but it wouldn't look good in my eyes if it were a single-type Pokémon. TTEchidna 23:04, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
If the pokemon is a single-type, then count its type as primary and seconday, just as the game does. hfc2X 23:39, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
He means that it would look like crap if the same color appeared twice in two rows...Posted by the Θρtιmαtum♏Talk|Links13:33 20 May 2008
Unnecessary Platinum links also make it look crap. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 15:58, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, Autumn ain't that far away. We'll have the sprites in no time! -fakes an optimistic attitude- Posted by the Θρtιmαtum♏Talk|Links08:19 21 May 2008

Deoxys?

I was looking at Deoxys' page and I realized that for the Gen III Attack Forme and the Defense Forme, the Template is using the sprites from Ruby and Sapphire and they show the Normal Forme. Can someone fix it? hfc2X 03:29, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Yes! TTEchidna 07:12, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Speaking of Deoxys, does anyone know where that normal forme Emerald sprite came from? Does the game have animated sprites for the Attack and Defense formes too? --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 10:01, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Nopes. Emerald has only 2 sprites for Deoxys: the Normal Forme and Speed Forme. The Normal Forme is shown when you battle Deoxys for catching it and the Speed Forme is the normal Deoxys for the game. Both of them have the same animation. hfc2X 15:09, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Not done yet...

But here's the coding for it when I return tonight...

No one screw with it until I return. It's almost done, but I don't have the time to finish because my brother took the car. So in closing, DON'T ANYONE MESS WITH THE NEW SUBTEMPLATES OR THE MAIN TEMPLATE. GOT IT? TTEchidna 19:48, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Please explain it to me... I see no diferences between this one and the old one =( hfc2X 01:09, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
Haven't updated it yet. TTEchidna 05:14, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
Overall I think it's set... all we need now is to delete the old subtemplates and wait on Pt's release to get the new minisprites and backsprites for Giratina and Shaymin, and battle sprites for the rest of them... TTEchidna 06:57, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
And upload the remaining Gen II+III images... So why are we hiding the sprites now? (The page loads the images anyway). --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 13:44, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Gen I

All front sprites from Gen I are reversed, this caused problems with the Poliwag's family as some users thought that the swirls changed directions between generations and added that to the trivia (and maybe they'll add it again)... should I fix all of them? hfc2X 22:25, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

So how to standardize...

I know for the FRLG sprites we have a different thing for those which are and those which aren't in the Kanto dex (and Teddiursa). The problem is that it's not as clear cut as ndex < 152 for Platinum sprites... TTEchidna 01:39, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

why?

Can someone please tell me why its suddenly hidden? I like it visible, and I dont see why its less important than the move templates or or other statistics. --Mooites Talk to me, baby! 02:05, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Maybe because it's just showing what it looks like?~Ποκεμανιακα0β 02:06, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
whats that supposed to mean? On a Pokemon's page, the box with the sprites is hidden. why? why is it less important than the tutored move box? --Mooites Talk to me, baby! 02:14, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
I don't know. I actually prefer it shown as well. If we're going to hide this, we may as well hide all the other templates, too. --((Marton imos)) 02:14, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
Um, I guess what's more important is what something does, not what it looks like.~Ποκεμανιακα0β 02:18, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
And this doesn't do anything, until you click on "show." Seriously, why was it changed to be like that? --((Marton imos)) 03:15, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
I dunno. It was suggested that it be hidden by default when we first got that coding. If everyone wants it unhid, though... Got it. TTEchidna 03:41, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Proposed move

I think this template should be moved to "Template:Sprites", because you're obviously gonna see more than one sprite on any page using this template. So, I decided that we should do a vote to see if the template should be moved or not. Please vote for either "Move" or "Don't move" with your reasoning, and be sure to number your comments. --Baby G (talk to me) (see my edits) 13:18, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Move

  1. As the proposer, I say that we should move it. --Baby G (talk to me) (see my edits) 13:18, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Don't move

  1. If we made a move, we'd have to change at least 493 pages. And if the template's working fine at the current name, I see no reason to move it. --Shiningpikablu252 15:11, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
  2. There is no problem with the template as it is now. MoldyOrange 15:16, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
  3. You can't see the name of the template in a page anyways. There is no reason to move it. hfc2X 15:37, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
  4. Oh my fuckin god it's just a stupid name~Ποκεμανιακα0β 15:41, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
  5. The name really doesn't matter. (Seriously. It could have been at Template:pretty_pictures for all the coding matters.) Moving a high-traffic template for no reason is a bad idea. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 16:23, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Other comments

To all opposers: The name "sprite" gives the wrong impression. There's more than one sprite on each page using this template, right? --Baby G (talk to me) (see my edits) 18:06, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

How does it give the wrong impression? The only issue I see here is using singular or plural, which is not an issue at all. The name is only seen in the internal coding and even someone who just randomly saw the title would realise that it is for the sprite table. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 19:16, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
But is it true or not true that there's obviously more than one sprite on each page using this template? --Baby G (talk to me) (see my edits) 19:17, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
No one cares anyways, you're the only one here. hfc2X 18:56, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
Why is everyone bypassing my question? Is it that hard to answer it? --Baby G (talk to me) (see my edits) 19:09, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
Yes, the template displays more than one sprite. No, the use of the singualar for a template name does not matter in any way. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 19:11, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Gen. IV sprites

How come the Gen. IV sprites aren't animated? Every Pokémon has an animation when it's sent out in every Gen. IV game so far. And, we have the animated sprites for Crystal and Emerald, so why not the Gen. IV games? --Chocolate 00:27, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

They're probably too hard to rip. I've been wondering for a LONG time...no other site has it either... ht14 00:30, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
There's been talk of adding animated pngs. I don't know what the status on that is, though. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 15:33, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
Ah, that was here.

hfc2X 16:02, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
Well, we could basically do this: Take the first and second frame sprites of each Pokémon, and use the animated PNG creator in Firefox to make the animated images. I could do it, but I'd prefer if someone more experienced with animation did it. Chocolate 20:29, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Stadium Artwork

Should this go here or side game info? We do need it bcuz then we'll be stuck with Gen IV sprites in Stadium party tables for Gym Leaders--KukiTalk 20:24, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

If we had them, they would go on this template. The 3D models are probably a little big to be workable, though. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 19:32, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Johto and Hoenn

The Johto and Hoenn Pokémon sprites are exactly the same in FireRed and in Ruby, with the only exception of Teddyursa and Deoxys. Why doesn't the template show the same Ruby sprites for both? We could save a lot of time uploading only sprites for 1 game instead of 2. hfc2X 20:06, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Yellow sprites

Is there any particular reason why the Yellow sprites are .gifs and not .pngs? Chocolate (Merry Christmas!) 23:47 12/19/2008

Because from the page they were downloaded, they were in the GIF format and the lazy guy who uploaded them to the archives didn't took the time to reverse them (because they are facing right instead of left) nor took the time to change the format to PNG. hfc2X 23:21, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
And then I came to rescue the situation by ripping them all again and uploading them as PNG. :) UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 23:23, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Well, Emerald sprites are easy to get. Just change the palette of the animation to the shiny Palette and then upload. Lugia is not well ripped, cause I tried that and it got screwed up totally. hfc2X 00:04, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

HOLD IT!

There appears to be a problem with the template, as the Platinum sprites CLEARLY link to the DP sprites instead. Can someone who can make sense of the coding edit it? Arigato Gosaimas! ΘρtιmαtumTalk 15:33, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

No, they don't link to D/P sprites. The example used in this template is Bulbasaur, and on the Archives, Bulbasaur's Pt. sprite is redirected to its D/P sprite. Chocolate (Chat with Me) 15:37, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Back Sprites

Shouldn't put seperate backsprites for the different games? Example: the back sprite for Venusaur is different in RSE, that in FRLG. GlalieGuy 03:51, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Are they? I was under the impression that they were always the same. Aura-Knight 13:37, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

I don't know what to do for this, for example Luxray has a different back sprite in Platinum to Diamond/Pearl, but I don't know where to put the one from Platinum... Rahrahbahb 23:39, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
If it hasn't already been, upload it on the archives following the new naming convention. (For Luxray's male Pt backsprite that would be File:Spr b 4p 405m.png, where p is the version initial used for the front sprites for that game, 405 is the ndex number, and (if required) m is the gender. The current template is completely incapable of handling different backsprites, but the naming convention was changed recently in preparation for upgrading to a template which can. Werdnae (talk) 04:21, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Overworld sprites

Is it better to make a new template for that or not? There have been some in the past, but what with a veritable flood of them coming in the next couple months, it would be a good idea to know what we're gonna do. If just add them to the main template, it'll mess up the overall style it has now. Aura-Knight 13:40, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

B/W sprites with different formes

I am pretty sure this is already being made but we need to fix the template so that the B/W Pokémon sprites with formes can be put in. - 050294 07:23, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

Request for aesthetic modification?

Oh of the things that irks me about this template is the fact that if a Pokémon isn't in a Gen, the table repeated tells you "not in this Gen," "not in this Gen," "not in this Gen." Is there any way to modify this template to appear more like the template:availability and template:dex templates? Because I'm looking at Koaruhie and we don't need a list of Gen I games, Gen II games, all the way to four, when all you need is a roundy replacement of those in the same way Dex and Availability have. If there's no means to, that's fine, but if there is means, name all the good reason you can that we need to be reminded times for that Koaruhie wasn't in any game in the last fifteen years. Japan only sprites, and Colosseum/XD sprites

Is there any way to add Japan only sprites of some Pokemon (Slowpoke, Jynx, etc.), assuming they are not already programmed into the template, I've tried and nothing seems to work. Also, once all the Colosseum/XD sprites are uploaded, should they be added to this template, or their own template? For example:

III Colosseum XD Menu
Box Colo 197.png Menu Colo 087.png
Box Colo 352 s.png Menu Colo 087 s.png

Note that I'm just using sprites that have already been uploaded, hence why it looks a bit of a mess. XVuvuzela2010X 19:55, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Can we find a source for those Colo/XD sprites that will allow us to use them? If we can get them all uploaded along with getting the backsprites done, I can add it to this.*
For the Japanese sprites, how many Pokémon are we talking about? Just those three? And are the Japan only sprites just gen II? (aside from RG of course) Werdnae (talk) 04:28, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
The Colosseum/XD sprites can be found here. Note that a couple of sprites are missing, namely Shadow Lugia, Bonsly, and a couple of Unown and Deoxys forms. Also, I have to say that your template is much better than the current one. :)
As for the japanese Gen II sprites, I'm pretty sure its just Jynx, Slowpoke and Aipom. I'm not sure about other Gens, other than Registeel having a different D/P Sprite for the PAL release. XVuvuzela2010X 12:10, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
Also, I though I should add that Pokemon XD has another set of animated sprites for all 387 Pokemon in the game, including Shadow Lugia and Deoxys forms etc., but would they be ok to use? Given that apparently there was problems with adding animated BW sprites. XVuvuzela2010X 12:42, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. The Unown formes aren't an issue, we don't have their sprites form Gens IV or V either. Not to mention Deth wants to cut out the bigger time-based switchers. Japanese sprites that's good, I can code up yet another sub-template. I hate formes. Registeel. . . It's EU DP sprite is the same as it's worldwide Pt sprite isn't it? So we can probably just ignore that a bit. Animated. . . I dunno. We don't want the animations to end up overdone. Deoxys's Gen IV section already hurts my eyes if I look at it for more than thirty seconds. Werdnae (talk) 05:42, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Frillish, Jellicent, and Unfezant only show the male menusprite, and Sawsbuck doesnt show the menusprites for its Summer and Autumn forms. Can someone fix these please? Vuvuzela2010 Δ 13:43, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Fixed Frillish, Jellicent, and Unfezant. However, it would appear that we don't actually have animated menu sprites for Frillish and Jellicent. Sawsbuck seems to be working fine, so I did nothing to fix it. --SnorlaxMonster 17:02, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

Little confused

Why there are no sprites for B2W2 yet? They are the same as BW, aren't them? Caciulacdlac (talk) 12:07, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Most sprites likely are the same. Some are different (like Arcanine, it's fur has different color), some only differ by animation (like Oshawott; though I didn't saw Oshawott B2W2 sprite uploaded). The games are out for about 2 months, that isn't that much of time. Marked +-+-+ (talk) 12:14, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
Just saying the template does need to be updated I believe, because the sprites aren't showing but they have all been uploaded/redirected. --Spriteit (talk) 16:12, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
The template's been updated, they should start showing on the pages now. Werdnae (talk) 20:40, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

How would we do this for X and Y when the time comes?

They use models, not sprites. Pikachu Bros. (talk) 16:49, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Maybe we could use the menu images, but the template will need an upgrade for Generation VI. Suic12- (talk) 19:24, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Like the Pokédex Entry and Game Location Templates

Could we make it so that this template says that the Pokémon was unavailable prior to Gen X like in the Game Location Template rather than have them all down individually? --Ditto51/Tom (My Talk Page) 22:49, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

New sprite template

This coding is way over my head, so I'll just use this cruder template to get my point across. I have a suggestion for the update sprite box to be arranged like so:

Red/Green Red/Blue Yellow Back
Spr 1g 021.png Spr 1b 021.png Spr 1y 021.png Spr b g1 021.png
Gold Silver Back Crystal Back
Spr 2g 021.png Spr 2s 021.png Spr b 2g 021.png Spr 2c 021.gif Spr b 2c 021.png

…and so on. I don't know why the current template can't render multiple "Back" columns, but they're necessary, as some Pokémon have three Gen IV back sprites. Currently, most of those sprites are stuffed into the Archives, and visitors are led to believe that each generation only has one back sprite. I also don't understand the reasoning behind putting the R/B column before the R/G one. R/G came first, so put it first. --TheVeryBest 18:30, 14 April 2014 (UTC)

Most of them have an "Other sprites" section, however. Pikachu Bros. (talk) 18:34, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
Mostly due to WannaBe. There's no reason to have one back sprite over another in the main template, so they should all be added in. glikglak 18:37, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
It looks to me like the simplest solution might just be putting the appropriate back sprite below its associated front sprite(s). If you try to add the columns all on the right, the table will roughly double in width (just about taking up my whole screen), whereas if you try to put the back column after the associated game(s), you're either misaligning front/back columns between generations or you're making it really complicated to keep some sensible alignment (if it's even possible). Tiddlywinks (talk) 19:51, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
Pikachu Bros. - Certainly not most. I know I've done Bulbasaur through Poliwrath, plus several random others, but there are hundreds more "Other sprites" yet to be added. Tiddlywinks - Is your monitor's resolution 4:3? The sprite template looks fine on widescreen, and we already have Shiny and female rows, making some Pokémon's Gen IV and V sections 4 rows deep. I would prefer the template be wider instead of taller, as long as it's not too wide for 4:3 screens. Do you think a width of 6 sprites is too much? That would ensure that each game in each generation has both its front and back sprites in the same row. --TheVeryBest 22:38, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
I bit the bullet and very (very) basically (and somewhat idealized, combining DPPt and BW/B2W2 fronts rather than repeating the same image) mocked up a full table of sprites for Venusaur. If there were two more columns the same width as "Back" is in current sprite tables (as a naive doubling of the current table would have), it'd be pretty much right up against the edges and less palatable, but I'm actually alright with what's on that page. (My screen is 1280x800, btw.)
I'm actually pretty okay with how that looks. Back sprites are, after all, very visually distinct from front sprites and can do without explanation, as opposed to male/female or (in some colorations) shininess, which ideally would have explanation but don't... But if you want, imagine a long "Back" cell above all the game headers (in each Gen? at the top only?) on the right (...and maybe a "Front" header above the ones on the left as well). Tiddlywinks (talk) 00:32, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
Guys we know this a template everyone wants, and believe me, we want it too, the issue isn't that the sprites don't exist for all the Pokemon because they haven't been uploaded on the archives, as a result it would create a mass of broken image links all across the pedia. This is why there is a Sprite project on the Archives Main Page Talk [1] a new draft for the template can be found here with more examples on the talk page which showcase examples of missing sprites. Any help in uploading and converting sprites would be greatly appreciated, there are also several other projects including sprites, I don't have time to get the page links for you now but they are around. It all comes down to time and availability. --Spriteit (talk) 01:04, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
Edit: as can be seen on these pages User:G50/Sprites/Normal Front, User:G50/Sprites/Normal Back, User:G50/Sprites/Shiny Front and User:G50/Sprites/Shiny Back. --Spriteit (talk) 01:17, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
I like that template. I wonder, though... Could you not just redirect all the missing images to some dummy image? That way you could just implement the template anyway, and it'd be eminently clear which sprites are missing (both on the Pokemon's page and by investigating "What links here" for the dummy image). Tiddlywinks (talk) 01:28, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
(Regarding TW's previous post) That's certainly more than I could do. Good job. I like how you combined cells (as it should have been from the beginning). I'm conflicted… On one hand, your model more clearly shows which back sprites are from which game, but it's also wider on average. I like that the Fronts and Backs are clearly separated, but I dislike how the template would have to be individualized for each Pokémon… And I just figured out that my model would require images to be repeated, since Venusaur in Platinum, for example, has a new back sprite but reuses the front sprite. I like your model better now, but overall this is beyond me. (Regarding Werdnae's template) Interesting and viable concept, though I dislike the bubble-within-a-bubble look and the repeated sprites. --TheVeryBest 07:20, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
Any comments about the templates can be placed on the template talk page, Werd was asking for them. The issue with a 'dummy' image is we'd have the same issue we had with the menu sprites with everyone going 'Guys we need the menu sprites'well duh, that's why we had the dummy image, or 'Guy's I found the images!' but really I found them on Serebii and you should totally steal them (which we actually had people do and tell us to do. We are/were attempting to get them all uploaded before implementation, it just takes a lot of time, and creating the redirects again, takes a lot of time. These aren't 1 hour jobs, they are more like 1 week jobs. The final reason we haven't implemented the template I believe (I may be mistaken) is for what was identified below, those models and mugshots aren't forgotten. The staff are trying to identify ways we can future proof our pages on Bulbapedia, which is part of the reason the previous gen movesets were moved to their own pages, and also why a lot of high use templates are being renovated and recreated from the ground up so that we can maximise the space we have, such as can be seen with the Availability template upgrade and the condensing of the Biology section on Pokemon pages, both projects have been in the works for a fair amount of time. --Spriteit (talk) 07:34, 19 April 2014 (UTC)

We also need to go about incorporating these forgotten images into each Pokémon's article, whether as part of the new "Game Depictions" section or elsewhere. --TheVeryBest 22:35, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

Adding X & Y models
