From Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia.
Jump to: navigation, search

This is a list of glitches that occur in the Generation V core series Pokémon games.

Contents

In Pokémon Black and White

Café Warehouse glitch

The tiles on the center and right of the door on the inside of the Café Warehouse say "It looks like a cabinet full of Pokémon goods." when the A Button is pressed while facing them.

Dreamyard invisible wall glitch

The row of tiles immediately west of the staircase to the Dreamyard's basement cannot be walked on, despite these type of tiles being able to be walked on in other locations.

Gear Station glitch

050Diglett.png This section is incomplete.
Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and complete it.
Reason: checking if it occurs in B2W2.

When returning to Gear Station after riding a train from a location other than Gear Station, the location name "Gear Station" is not displayed until entering the center of the station, despite the platform itself being considered to be Gear Station by the game. This includes when the player reaches the rest area after seven wins in a row, since it is considered to be the Battle Subway by the game, but all other parts of the Battle Subway do not trigger this.

GTS morphing glitch

GTS search glitch

After successfully trading with a Trainer, when a trainer returns to seek more Pokémon, there will be no trainers there but when the player presses Select nothing will happen, and if they hit Search a message will pop up saying "Please change your search conditions". The player cannot search for the Pokémon again until they have searched for another, then search for it.

GTS trainer display glitch

Sometimes, the GTS will not display trainers when the player is searching for some kind of Pokémon. This seems to differ between trainers.

GTS freeze glitch

050Diglett.png This section is incomplete.
Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and complete it.
Reason: checking if it occurs in B2W2.

This glitch happens as a side effect of the glitch above. When selecting a Trainer after an empty space, the game freezes. Tapping on a Trainer after a space will cause the game to display that an error has occurred.

Gym Leader music glitch

050Diglett.png This section is incomplete.
Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and complete it.
Reason: checking if it occurs in B2W2.

If the player is in the middle of a move that inflicts damage over several turns consecutively (such as Rollout), and the Gym Leader sends out their last Pokémon, the battle music will not change until after the duration of the move ends. This is because the Gym Leader does not come out to speak, which is what cues the music change.

HP display glitch

050Diglett.png This section is incomplete.
Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and complete it.
Reason: check if it occurs in B2W2; check what would happen if False Swipe was used.
The screens are desynchronized.

Sometimes, when the player's Pokémon has gained enough HP EVs during a battle to increase its HP stat, the battle and team summary screen may display different values.

Fainted Pokémon glitch

050Diglett.png This section is incomplete.
Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and complete it.
Reason: checking if it occurs in B2W2; confirm the Double Battle glitch Pokémon occurs; check if this can occur with 2 HP or more.

If a Pokémon gains enough HP EVs that would allow it survive a would-be one-hit KO with one HP left that it would not have be able to do prior to the gain, that Pokémon will still faint. This occurs more often with low-level Pokémon due to seemly being more likely to gain a level while benefiting from the EVs, in addition to having stats that could lead to a one-hit KO.

In a Single Battle, this prevents the player from switching out Pokémon or attack. Due to this, the only way out is to reset the game.

In a Rotation Battle, the Pokémon can still be rotated out to a different Pokémon.

Landing on person or item

When Surfing, by moving towards a tile directly adjacent to an NPC or item that is adjacent to water, then quickly pressing the D-pad to dismount onto the NPC or item, the player will be standing on top of it. However, this won't occur if the person is moving.

Liberty Garden Fly glitch

When selecting Liberty Garden while using Fly, its green dot is filled red, as if it could be flown to, unlike other locations represented by the same symbol. This indicates that it may have been intended to be a location which could be flown to in the beta versions.

In the sequels however, all locations marked by green squares turn red.

Nacrene Gym bookcase glitch

After the bookcase in Nacrene Gym has been moved to reveal the secret stairs, it is still possible to read the book on the bookshelf from the stepladder. If the player stands on the stepladder, saves, then resets, upon resuming, it is possible to read the book as if the bookcase had not moved. It is possible to do this until the player leaves the room.

Nimbasa Gym Trainer glitch

In Japanese versions of Pokémon Black and White, if the player loses to Lady Colette in Nimbasa Gym while directly facing her when encountered, this glitch will occur. When the player comes back in, she will be standing on the same spot, and will battle the player. After she is defeated, she still remains on the tracks of the roller coaster, and can be passed through while riding the roller coaster to Elesa.

Nimbasa Shift Glitch

At the gate to the park in Nimbasa City, when entering in the middle of the gate, the player will shift up to the top path. This does not work when exiting.

Opelucid Gym air walk glitch

The player floating one tile to the north of the slope

On the sloping part of the path before the first dragon's tail in Opelucid Gym, the two tiles directly up and down can be walked on, leaving the player walking on the air.

Opelucid Gym pedestal glitch

In front of both of the "certified Trainers" pedestals in the Opelucid Gym is an empty tile that cannot be walked on. This tile is considered by the game to be the pedestal, and can be interacted with rather than the pedestal itself, and acts just like it. Despite this, the space taken by the visible pedestal cannot be walked on.

Opelucid Gym shadowed tiles glitch

In Opelucid Gym, none of the tiles behind the warp tile behind the Gym Leader can be walked on.

PC red 'X' button glitch

If the "Switch Box" mode is entered in "Move Pokémon" - either by the select button or the red button above the PC box - and the player proceeds to change the name of the current box, upon changing the name, the red cross in the bottom-right corner will no longer be visible. This is only aesthetic, as the empty space will still function as the cross does. Note that the actual name of the box does not need to be changed; the glitch activates when returning to the PC box from the character palette.

Relic Castle glitch

On B3F of the Relic Castle, near the drop point from the hole closest to the correct drop point to B2F, there is a non-solid wall tile. It is on the wall one tile to the left of the wall directly to the south of this drop point.

Sitrus Berry glitch

If a Pokémon holding a Sitrus Berry hurts itself from confusion, and reaches under half of its max HP through the damage, then its Sitrus Berry will not activate until another form of damage is dealt.

Skyarrow Bridge glitch

The player cannot use the bicycle or use fly on the place that connects Pinwheel Forest to Skyarrow Bridge.

Sky Drop glitch

Main article: Sky Drop glitch

Due to this glitch, the move Sky Drop was banned in Wi-Fi Random Matches starting November 10, 2010.

This glitch can only occur in Double and Triple Battles. It is activated when Gravity is used while two Pokémon are in the semi-invulnerable state after Sky Drop is used. Gravity will bring the user of Sky Drop down, while the target will be stuck in the semi-invulnerable state, unable to move until it is knocked out.

Text speed glitch

An old woman in Driftveil City talks one text speed slower than the selected text speed. If the text speed is set to slow, she speaks even slower than usual in the slow speed setting. This is due to her missing a large section of code, and is not intentional.

By Zowayixx
Videos are currently unavailable on Bulbapedia; instead, you can watch the video on YouTube here.

TM67 Retaliate glitch

Menu screen of TM67 in the Japanese versions

In Japanese versions of Pokémon Black and White, TM67 (Retaliate) appears as a Dark-type TM, despite the move being Normal-type.

Trick Room glitch

050Diglett.png This section is incomplete.
Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and complete it.
Reason: checking if it occurs in B2W2.

If a Pokémon has an effective speed greater than 1809, it will ignore the effects of Trick Room, and act before slower Pokémon.

Walking Trainer glitch

When blocking the path of certain Trainers who walk in a loop, if their path is blocked at a corner so that they cannot change direction, they will continue walking in the direction they were slowly and without turning, so as to appear to be walking into nothing, but behaving as if they are walking into a wall.

Village Bridge Sandwich Shop Glitch

At times, at the Village Bridge Sandwich Shop, upon Chef Chris's requesting the player to hand out the sandwiches to the customer, the speech bubble will point to Pikachu's trainer.

Pokémon Black 2 and White 2

Ace Trainer Summer glitch

When coming in sight of Ace Trainer Summer in Undella Bay from the north while surfing, she will walk over water and challenge the player to a battle.

Alder Glitch

If the player talks to Alder at anytime between the battle with Hugh in Floccesy Ranch (and giving him the Town Map) and finding the ranch owner's Herdier, Alder will reject the player and ask the player to give their Town Map to Hugh, which the player already did.

Floccesy Ranch grass glitch

In Floccesy Ranch, there is a tile that appears to be a tall grass tile, but is instead a normal tile. Wild Pokémon cannot be encountered in it (even with Sweet Scent or Honey). Unlike actual tall grass tiles, the bottom of the player's sprite is not covered by the grass when standing on it, and it does not make a noise when the player steps on it.

Floccesy Town snow glitch

In Floccesy Town, in winter, behind the house immediately east of the Pokémon Center is a tile that behaves as a snow tile, but appears as a normal tile. Stepping on the tile produces the sound normally produced when stepping in snow, and footsteps can be seen to be left behind upon stepping on it. The tile is located 1 tile northeast of the northwest corner of the house.

Frozen Zoroark glitch

Main article: Frozen Zoroark glitch

In the Japanese versions of Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, if the player begins following N's Zoroark through Victory Road then leaves the area, Zoroark will appear in its initial position, and will not move. This prevents the player from meeting N. This bug was fixed in international releases.

Habitat glitch

If one is on the Unova Pokédex, and chooses a Pokémon that is found on a route where a Pokémon outside of the Unova Pokédex found by fishing, clicking Area and selecting the route with A, clicks the fishing icon, and selects a non-native Pokémon, and then clicking A, pressing B twice will show Victini's area page. Clicking any other option in Victini's entry will cause an error that will require the game to be turned off. The game will not freeze if one has already seen Victini.

Hidden Grotto Glitch

Attempting to exit the Hidden Grotto right when the repel runs out makes it impossible to go straight through the exit. When it happens, the player must exit by moving up and exiting again.

Mail Ability description glitch

If the player reads Mail held by a Pokémon, then views the summary of any Pokémon in their party, the description of its Ability will disappear. The description returns if the player changes to any screen but the one displaying that Pokémon's Ability.

Marlon glitch

In the Japanese versions of Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, if the player beats the Shadow Triad at the Plasma Frigate in the Giant Chasm, then goes to the Humilau City Gym and talks to Marlon, his second and third text boxes will be blank. This glitch doesn't work if the player has already defeated Ghetsis. This bug was fixed in international releases.

N glitch

050Diglett.png This section is incomplete.
Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and complete it.
Reason: cause.

In the ruins of N's Castle, the player can get a copy of N to appear. One N will follow the player around, while the other will stand still and can be talked to as normal. Since the player is being followed by a copy of N, this glitch prevents the player from flying or fighting in battles.

Phantom Bianca glitch

When going through Reversal Mountain for the first time, if the player enters the dungeon from the left side, causing Bianca to follow them, then goes through the southernmost exit and comes back inside, returning to the start of the cave, but not leaving the mountain entirely, Bianca will ask to split up. The player will then move to the next screen, where if they then use either an Escape Rope or Dig they will exit back to the southernmost point. Returning to the main part of the cave will cause Bianca's dialogue box to appear, but for her to be out of sight. After walking around for a while, she will eventually catch up, but may travel through walls in the process.

Pokéstar Studios surfable tree

In the Pokéstar Studios area, there is a tree on the right side that can be surfed on. No wild Pokémon can be found here. The Super Rod can't be used on this tile either, instead giving the message used when a key item can't be used: "Juniper's words echoed... <player>! There's a time and place for everything! But not now."

The beginning of the glitch is at 2:00 and ends at 2:42, with the results of the glitch being shown from 2:26 to 2:42.

Pokémon World Tournament glitch

A minor bug occurs in the Pokémon World Tournament building. In a section of the building, there is a spot for the last important NPC the player has battled in for the Semifinals, Quarterfinals, and the Opening Round. If a player battles an important NPC, then in the next tournament battles the same NPC but in a different position and an unimportant NPC in the same position as the important NPC was in the first round, the important NPC will be shown in two different spots.

The beginning of the glitch is at 0:14 and ends at 1:59, with the results of the glitch being shown from 1:51 to 1:59.

Rondez-View Ferris Wheel glitch

050Diglett.png This section is incomplete.
Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and complete it.
Reason: video, specifics.

In certain cases, if the player saves the game in the Nimbasa Amusement Park, then resumes play on a later date, the NPC in front of the Rondez-View Ferris Wheel can change to a different NPC, but keep the sprite of the old NPC.

For example, N can be observed speaking about Hugh's younger sister as if she was his, and then turns into Hugh when riding the Ferris Wheel, then turns back into N when he gets off.

Rough Skin Substitute glitch

050Diglett.png This section is incomplete.
Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and complete it.
Reason: Further research (experiments with Iron Barbs and using Substitute while behind the fake one); checking if it occurs in BW.

If a Pokémon behind a substitute faints from Rough Skin or Rocky Helmet, the defending Pokémon will appear to be behind a substitute, but will function as normal.

Route 19 non-solid wall

On Route 19, in the area to the northeast that requires Surf to access, there are two non-solid wall tiles next to the staircase. Only one of these wall tiles can be accessed from the staircase; this tile is located in the wall adjacent to the first tile from the bottom of the staircase. The other tile can be accessed by taking one step east from that tile. In winter, both tiles use the sound effect used when the player walks on snowy tiles.

Multi Battle victory music glitch

Defeating a pair of wild Pokémon while the player has a partner will play the Trainer defeated jingle, rather than the wild Pokémon defeated jingle.

White and Black flashback glitch

If the player has used the Memory Link and defeated N and Ghetsis in the Black or White version which the game is linked to, the White and Black flashback will be unlocked. The description from the Memory List says that in order to make it happen, the player needs to first participate in the Pokémon World Tournament. However, it is possible to watch the flashback before doing so, just after having gone to Rood's house in Driftveil City for the first time.

White Forest shadow glitch

The tree lacking a shadow as seen in the upper left corner

One of the trees in White Forest to the left of the entrance to the White Treehollow does not have a shadow underneath it.

Castelia Street Passerby Glitch

In Castelia City's Castelia Street, if the player rides on the Bicycle lengthwise from one end of the street to another, without changing direction or stopping, the player will appear to pass through the passerby NPCs on the same gridline instead of the NPC stepping aside.

In all Generation V games

Assist Egg glitch

When Assist is used, it can use the moves of unhatched Eggs in the party.

Box change glitch

050Diglett.png This section is incomplete.
Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and complete it.
Reason: Needs cause.

If a Pokémon is selected, then the Box is changed by tapping the Box name and using the "Switch Box" option, when changing back to the original Box the selected Pokémon's menu sprite will be invisible.

If the space where the Pokémon was is tapped, a red silhouette of the last Pokémon to be in the same spot when the PC was opened will appear. So if the Pokémon was not moved and there was no other Pokémon in the same spot when the box was changed then a red silhouette of the Pokémon will appear. If a different box was viewed either before or during the glitch with a Pokémon in the same spot or the Pokémon was moved to a spot that had another Pokémon was before while not looking at another Pokémon in a different box in the same spot then it will be a copy of that Pokémon. If the Pokémon is moved to a spot where another Pokémon was before and switch to another box with no Pokémon also appearing in the same spot the no silhouette will appear when the Pokémon is selected.

If put in the party, it temporarily takes the colored menu sprite of the silhouette after reopening the party; if the space was empty, it reverts to its original menu sprite. If the Pokémon did not copy another Pokémon silhouette then it will remain invisible. If left in a Box and the Box is changed (except using the "Switch Box" method initially used before), its menu sprite will revert to normal; if left in the party it will remain in its false menu sprite. It will return to its regular sprite if the PC is closed, a Pokémon status screen is examined, the bag screen is opened or if the search screen is selected.

If a Pokémon that has its form changed by an item (Giratina, Arceus, or Genesect) and its item is removed while it is under the effect of the glitch, the proper menu sprite will show, ending the glitch.

Card Album cry glitch

If the player has another page of Wonder Cards following the page they are viewing, and moves the cursor over to "Back" and taps the bottom screen, the cry of the Pokémon in the first slot of the next page can be heard.

Conkeldurr pillar zoom glitch

050Diglett.png This section is incomplete.
Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and complete it.
Reason: Needs a video, cause.

When zooming in on an enemy's Conkeldurr for any reason, the bottom portion of Conkeldurr's pillars will disappear underneath its platform. After zooming back into regular zoom though, the missing portion of Conkeldurr's pillars will return. This also happens when Conkeldurr faints while its cry is playing.

Icirrus Gym glitch

In Icirrus Gym, there are three rocks which are not solid—they can be walked on. Using one of these rocks, in Black and White, it is possible to reach Brycen without battling Black Belt Thomas.

By Zowayixx
Videos are currently unavailable on Bulbapedia; instead, you can watch the video on YouTube here.

Kadabra trade glitch

If a Kadabra is traded while it is holding an Everstone, it will still evolve into Alakazam.

Low HP cry glitch

While Pokémon with a yellow HP bar have a distorted cry to match their low HP, Pokémon with a red HP bar have the same cry as Pokémon with a green HP bar.

Music memory glitch

050Diglett.png This section is incomplete.
Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and complete it.
Reason: Needs a video.

If the player goes below the first floor in the Dreamyard, Wellspring Cave, Chargestone Cave or Challenger's Cave, the music will usually play with a lower pitch and tempo. This is deliberate and is meant to set the atmosphere. However, if the player saves and resets, the music will play as if the player was on the top floor.

Likewise, if the player rides to a different area after getting on the bicycle, the music will change from the cycling theme to that location's music. However, if the player then saves and resets, the cycling music will play.

Variable scoring is not affected by this.

Music speed glitch

When the player uses Dig or an Escape Rope while cycling (cycling music must be playing) or surfing while below the first floor in Wellspring Cave, Chargestone Cave or Challenger's Cave and travels to Pinwheel Forest, Moor of Icirrus or the Desert Resort, the music will play with a lower pitch and tempo, as if the player was in an underground floor. Reentering the affected area will revert the music back to normal, as will surfing or using the bicycle.

Nimbasa City light glitch

At the path in Nimbasa City leading to the Join Avenue/Nimbasa Gate, there are several lights on the ground. Usually when the player steps on these their shadow appears under the lights; however, when stepping on the light closest to the Join Avenue/Gate on either side, the player's shadow appears on top of them.

Prize money glitch

Receiving more than PokémonDollar.png9999 in prize money

If the player wins a battle with an Amulet Coin and a Prize Money Power ↑, ↑↑ or ↑↑↑, so that the resulting prize money is an amount greater than PokémonDollar.png9999, it will be displayed with a question mark before the last four digits. This happens because the game is only designed to display four digits of the prize money. However, if the player defeats a Trainer that normally gives out more than PokémonDollar.png9999, the prize money will be displayed correctly.

Route 3 tall grass rows glitch

The rows count

On Route 3, the two westernmost columns of tall grass in the patch closest to Nacrene City are subject to a graphical glitch: Seven tall grass sprites in each column are squashed to fit into six spaces on the world's grid. The player still moves along this grid, thus disaligning him or her with the grass sprites in these rows.

Shed Shell glitch

050Diglett.png This section is incomplete.
Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and complete it.
Reason: Specifics on when it occurs.

Sometimes in in-game battles, if the player's lead Pokémon holds a Shed Shell, it will be unable to switch out. This glitch does not occur in link battles.

TM94 Rock Smash glitch

Menu screen of TM94 in Black and White
Menu screen of TM94 in Black 2 and White 2

In Black, White, Black 2, and White 2, the TM94 (Rock Smash) icon appears as a Rock-type TM, despite the move being Fighting-type.

Variable scoring glitch

This glitch only works in cities and towns that can be flown or teleported to with variable scoring dependent on the player's location in the area; specifically, Nacrene City (accordion player), Icirrus City (clapping group walking in a circle), and Opelucid City (keytar/erhu player). If the player is in the area that the variable scoring is active, and flies or teleports to that same city or town, the variable scoring will be active until the music is changed, regardless of the player's location within the city or town. Likewise, if the player is in an area where the variable score is not active and flies or teleports to that city or town, the variable score will not activate until the music is changed.
