Rivalry (Japanese: とうそうしん Belligerence) is an Ability introduced in Generation IV.
Effect
In battle
Generation IV
When a Pokémon with Rivalry uses an attack, the attack's power is raised by 25% if the target and the user have the same gender, and is reduced by 25% if the target and the user have opposite genders. If the user or target is genderless, the move's power is unaffected.
Unless the Pokémon is genderless, Rivalry powers up confusion damage.
Generation V onward
Rivalry no longer powers up confusion damage.
Outside of battle
Rivalry has no effect outside of battle.
Pokémon with Rivalry
In other games
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series
In Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky, and the Mystery Dungeon (WiiWare) games, Rivalry raises the power of a move if the target and the Pokémon with this Ability have the same gender, but reduces base power if the target and the Pokémon with this Ability have opposite genders.
In Gates to Infinity and Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, Rivalry increases the power of a move when attacking a Pokémon that shares a type. In Super Mystery Dungeon, Rivalry increases the power of a move by 20%.
