The Pokémon franchise first debuted in Singapore around 1998.

The official distributor of Nintendo products such as the Pokémon Trading Card Game and the video games is Maxsoft Pte. Ltd., while the licensed distributor for the Pokémon manga is Chuang Yi, a publishing company based in Singapore.

Pokémon video games

All internationally released main series games have been available in Singapore since 1998, the first being Pokémon Red and Blue. The games are usually available a few weeks after its release, but with growing popularity over the years, recent games like Diamond and Pearl, and HeartGold and SoulSilver versions have been made available immediately on its release date.

Japanese versions of the games are also available on the date of its Japanese release, such as the recent Black and White Versions, which released on September 18, 2010.

There have been no in-store event Pokémon distributions in Singapore. However in recent years, the availability Wi-Fi allowed Singaporean players to gain access to worldwide Wi-Fi events, such as the distribution of the Autumn 2010 Mew and the Enigma Stone.

Pokémon anime

The English dub of the first episode Pokémon - I Choose You! aired in Singapore on MediaCorp's central, in the kids timeslots on every Saturday at 10.30 AM. It was aired for several years, until it moved to the 11 AM timeslot, before moving once again to the 10 AM timeslot. On 20 October, 2010, the channel was separated into two channels. Therefore, Pokémon move to okto. Sometimes, Pokémon are encored during the evening timeslots. All episodes aired in Singapore are in English, and are broadcast on okto, during Saturdays at 10 AM. The episodes are usually behind the US broadcast.

Pokémon Trading Card Game

With the introduction of the Base Set, cards for the Pokémon Trading Card Game have always been sold in Singapore. The cards are usually in English.

Chuang Yi, one of the two official publishers of Pokémon manga in the English language, is based in Singapore. Chuang Yi translates many different Pokémon titles, including the popular Pokémon Adventures series, Pokémon Pocket Monsters, Magical Pokémon Journey and Phantom Thief Pokémon 7, among others. Chuang Yi's translations are well known by English-speaking Pokémon fans worldwide, as they translate several series not translated by VIZ Media, as well as their continuing publication of Pokémon Adventures.

Community

There are 8 'Pokémon Gyms' all around Singapore and are places where TCG and video game players can interact. These Gyms are run by people (usually one person) known as 'Gym Leaders'. During official Leagues and Tournaments, 'Gym Badges' are also given out.

Events in Singapore

Occasionally, Pokémon-themed events will be held in Singapore, the most recent being the Pokémon Christmas Bash at Tampines Mall on December 2010. TCG or video game events may also be held in conjunction, which are usually organised by Team Robo, and Maxsoft Pte. Ltd.
