Captain Crook (Japanese: デボ Debo) is the character of the day in the anime episode Viva Las Lapras. He is a pirate captain who has been known to poach Pokémon. His Japanese voice actor is 中村秀利 Hidetoshi Nakamura.
Crook captains a pirate ship, which sails around a Pokémon no-capture zone in search of Pokémon to poach. The first mate, Scuz, keeps a lookout and alerts the captain to any promising targets. The captain then fires the ship's cannons at the target; however, these cannons are loaded with Poké Balls, each one containing a Tentacruel, which the captain uses to subdue targets.
In the episode, Ash, Misty and Tracey were about to take the ferry back to Pallet Town until they saw Lapras's friends. This school of Lapras was the next target of Captain Crook and his crew. Ash and his friends intervened with the pirates' plans. Afterwards, Captain Crook and his crew were arrested, as well as Team Rocket agents Jessie, James and Meowth. Misty then released every one of the captain's Tentacruel.
