Freeing a friend
Once you have returned from the Dream Island we're ready to fulfil the second part of Squirtle's request. Return to the caves, and Professor Tangrowth will call you as you enter. Then you will hear someone calling from within the rocks on the right side of the mysterious gate. Break through our typical Rock Smash rocks, and you will see an Onix trapped in a small cavern.
Speak to Onix, and they will ask you to break them out of there. However, when you try to break the stone you will find you're not strong enough to. Onix will then tell you to ask Professor Tangrowth for advice on how to do so.
Pleasing the professor
Return to the main part of the area, and you'll find that Professor Tangrowth is not standing in his usual spot. Instead you will find him hanging out near the cave at the bottom of the starting area. Speak to him and he will ask you to break through the wall so that he can see what is on the other side of the cave. He won't help you with Onix until you do so.
Use Rock Smash to break through the cave, and Professor Tangrowth will slowly follow you through the gap. He is very excited by the beach that you will find here. In particular, he is taken by a strange rundown light house with a radio outside of it.
Lurking at the lighthouse
Approach the lighthouse, and you will hear a voice through the radio, this will start our next Important Request Do the… Team Initiation Challenge? Professor Tangrowth tells you that you should return here frequently to drop off the items requested.
The first part of the challenge asks you to drop off 5 Leppa Berries, which you very likely already have on you. Hand them over and you will be rewarded with the Bouldery Badge. It will also open up the second request for Tomatoes, Beans and Wheat. Speak to Professor Tangrowth again, and he will say that he will discuss what to do with Onix with you back at his usual spot.
Learning to jump
Before we return to the Pokémon Center rubble, there are a few things we can do in this new area. Firstly, you should speak to Magikarp to add them to your Pokédex. Magikarp will then ask you for a habitat and luckily almost everything you need is right here. The final thing you need to do is place a seat near the fishing rod and you will create an Ocean Fishing Spot habitat. If you don't have a seat on you, there is a workbench nearby where you can craft one.
With their request fulfilled, Magikarp will teach you how to jump. This is extremely helpful for getting over small horizontal gaps. You can jump at any time by pressing R, and it doesn't use PP when you use it. Neat.
Making a Slowpoke home
The next thing we want to do is make a habitat for Slowpoke who we will need later. Use Leafage to place four tall grass patches near the ocean water, which will make a Seaside Tall Grass habitat. Unfortunately, Slowpoke isn't very mobile so you will also want to make sure that the path between this habitat and the Pokémon Center is clear.
This means that you need to moisten the land, clear the road of any debris, and build stairs or level terrain where needed. Slowpoke can jump over ledges that are one block high, but it will slow them down. Either way this will set things up for the next part of our quest to rebuild the Pokémon Center.
