Squirtle's calling
So far we have mostly stuck to the middle of Withered Wasteland, but now we are ready to explore a bit further afield. To begin our exploration you need to accept a request from Squirtle. They want to explore the area left of the Pokémon Center. Use Rock Smash to break through those familiar rocks, and you'll discover a whole new area on the other side. Press up on the D-pad in front of Squirtle so they follow you to this new area.
Squirtle will be thrilled, but they aren't done exploring yet. Next up they want to explore the area of caves that you can see on the right on your new pathway. However, there are a few more things we should do before we go into the caves.
Working to rebuild
Firstly, you will likely be environment level 3, which will allow you to purchase the building kit for the Pokémon Center from the PC. It costs 1000 coins, and it will allow you to start making progress towards this main goal. You can start by gathering materials for the eventual rebuild.
You need 20 Lumber, 20 Stone, 10 Leaf, and 10 Vine Rope. When you have some you can place them in the box. If you are short on Lumber you can give Scyther some small logs and they will turn it into Lumber for you. Before we can make further progress we will need a Pokémon that knows Bulldoze, so we'll take a break from this for now.
Drifting away
Next, we want to befriend Drifloon. You can find them drifting around near the cave area we unlocked a little bit earlier. Speak to them to add them to the Pokédex. After a little while they will ask you to build a habitat for them. For this you will need three campfires in a line. You want to put them in the area where your other Pokémon are hanging out. Then press up on the D-pad to get Charmander to follow you and light the fires.
Now that they have a home Drifloon will have another request for you. This time they want a doll to play with. You can find dolls inside glowing blocks. Put the Dowsing Machine in your inventory to find them, and break them open with Rock Smash to grab the item inside. Return to Drifloon and they will offer you the chance to go to a Dream Island.
Going to Dream Island
You can only go to one Dream Island a day, but they can have rare items for you to grab. Most importantly they contain Stardust which will allow you to recruit new Pokémon. If you craft a Star Piece and give it to a Pokémon that's visiting you alongside another player they will give you a gift. You can then open the gift near an empty habitat and that species of Pokémon will move to your island.
Make sure you go to the Dream Island with an empty backpack. There will be a lot of stuff here that you can take with you, and the island will disappear at the end of the day so you might as well collect everything you want. Once you are finished on the island, talk to Drifloon again and they will take you back to your town.
