Conkeldurr for concrete

Our first recruit in Sparkling Skylands should be Conkeldurr as they're required for this area. One of the many building materials we need for this section is concrete, which they can create out of limestone. In order to entice Conkeldurr you will need the Construction-site Generator habitat, which requires a furnace, iron pipes and two iron scaffolding. All of these items can be found on the ground level at the edge of the island, and just need to be rearranged into the correct habitat. It shouldn't take long for them to appear.

Once you have registered Conkeldurr in your Pokédex, they will request a concrete mixer and give you the recipe. You can craft one at the workbench using two iron ingots, then you need to place it so that it backs onto a water source like the pool nearby. You then need to fill the mixer with limestone and get Conkeldurr to follow you. This will allow you to make concrete. It's a good idea to set this up first so that you have some concrete ready before we move on to a different island in the Skylands. We'll need over 100 concrete for this part of the game so you will want to keep Conkeldurr working at all times.

Other friends we make along the way

There are a few more Pokémon that we will need later so they are worth recruiting now. This region is all about crafting resources and recruiting large numbers of Pokémon in order to complete building projects. As such this is the perfect opportunity to craft a number of new habitats, particularly for Pokémon that have skills required for later.

Sprigatito, Dreepy and Pupitar can all be found in the Tree-shaded Pink Tall Grass habitat, which is four patches of watered grass positioned under a tree. Try to build at least three of these so you can host them all, as they all have helpful skills for later. Froakie is another important recruit and will help clear up the mud in the area. They live in the Hydrated Pink Tall Grass habitat, which is four patches of grass placed near the water.

Converting resources

Swablu, Trapinch, and Vibrava can all be found in the Pink Tall Grass habitat, which is simply four patches of watered grass. They have the litter ability and drop fluff and squishy clay respectively, the latter of which works with our next potential recruit. Vulpix with its burn ability can make bricks from our clay and also use a smelting furnace if needed. They can be found in the Fluffy Flower Bed habitat which is simply four patches of skyland flowers.

If you don't have a large supply of iron ingots on you then you should build a smelting furnace on the main island as we will need a lot of building materials and resources in order to progress the story. Iron ore can be found everywhere in this region, not only in the garbage blocks, but in any of the blocks of rusted metal that cover the area. Don't forget to pick up at least six concrete from Conkeldurr and one iron ingot from Vulpix before we move on.

Calling on Dragonite

The most important recruit we need is Dragonite, who will teach us a necessary skill. They live in the Waterside Dinghy habitat, which includes a canoe, two patches of duckweed, water and a high-up location. Everything you need can be found in the higher section of this area. Make sure your Leafage has been powered up with a salad, and pull up some duckweed in the water near the canoe. If you don't have any salad on you, there is also a chopping board on this higher section where you can make some. It shouldn't take long for Dragonite to appear.

Once you have registered Dragonite in your dex then they will be willing to teach you Fly. Talk to them and you will learn this new skill. The important thing to learn about Fly is that you cannot change your vertical height when using it. While you can only move on the horizontal axis, you will slowly descend, and you can also exit your flying form at any time.

Time to fly

To fly you need to climb up as high as possible and walk off the edge, then tap R to change form. You can also double tap R while standing on the ground to jump and fly. If you ever want to drop down to the surface, tap R again. You also move faster when you're flying compared to walking or running so this can be a very useful way to move around.

After Dragonite teaches you this new skill they ask you to show them your moves. Follow them to the end of the road and walk off the edge to fly to the next island. Dragonite will follow you there, and after congratulating you on a job well done, you'll be alerted to a sound near the windmill. Dragonite will go back to their home, leaving you to check out the noise by yourself.
