Entering Sparkling Skylands

Our next area is very different from the rest, as rather than one big interconnected area, it's several islands that you will need to create paths between. Now that we are an Ultra rank trainer, we can enter through the gate in Bleak Beach; the one that sits on the opposite side of the long bridge. Make sure you have some iron ore and iron ingots on you as they will be very useful in the next area. You should also bring some limestone blocks that can be found in Rocky Ridges near the hot spring.

Scan your Pokédex and the gate will open. As always, when we pass through a new gate Professor Tangrowth will join us as we take our first steps in Sparkling Skylands. The first thing you will notice is that there isn't any ground beneath the islands and instead there are clouds. Falling into the abyss here is like drowning in deep water, you will spawn on solid ground again if you lose your footing.

The importance of recycling

Professor Tangrowth will point out a large building in the distance, and say that we should head over there. However, it is several islands away, and we currently have no method of getting there. He also points out the cable cars that we can see, and explains that it is very likely that these were built by humans. However, each island is also covered in garbage blocks, and these were very likely made by a Pokémon.

The garbage blocks are one of the best resources in Sparkling Skyland and you should break them with Rock Smash whenever you see them. They can drop nonburnable garbage, wastepaper, iron ore, or gold ore, and is one of the easiest ways to harvest these important resources. Many are needed structurally to maintain paths around the islands, but you can easily replace them with less precious blocks. This area is all about harvesting resources, and breaking garbage blocks will really help you out with grabbing what you'll need later.

Approaching the Pokémon Center

When you are ready, you can get on the cable car, and this will take you to the main hub of this region. This island is also where the rubble that once was a Pokémon Center can be found. As you step off the cable car you will see a Rookidee. Speak to them and they will tell you that they love living in Sparkling Skylands, but they wish there were more Pokémon to hang out with.

Check the PC and you'll see a number of new challenges and shop items. Professor Tangrowth will also tell you that he would like to see the region grow to environment level 3 before he will give you further instructions. This means we need to work on creating habitats and recruiting Pokémon ourselves for a while. These tasks are important in every area of the game, but they are especially important here. There is a choke point in the story later on where if you haven't reached this environment level, you will not be able to continue the story. Make sure that you are preparing everything you need as you go.
