Making a house a home

Once you're finished cleaning up the sludge in the town Professor Tangrowth has another request for us. He wants us to build houses for the local Pokémon. Luckily, there are two houses just in front of the Pokémon Center that are pretty much ready to go, all they need are doors. Craft two large doors and put one in the hole on each house. Make sure to put three pieces of furniture inside each house, and then ask some Pokémon to move in. To do this you need to ask them to follow you, then talk to them outside of one of the houses. When prompted, ask them if they would like to move into the house.

When it's done, return to Professor Tangrowth. You may have to talk to him a few times as he has two separate requests, one for each house. There is also a vegetable patch behind one of these houses that grows tomatoes. We need at least 13 of these so make sure to harvest some and prepare for more to grow.

Making our first bricks

Meowth has a new request for you. They say they want more color around their shack and ask for a planter. To make this you will need bricks, which require clay and a Pokémon with the Burn ability. Meowth suggests Torchic, which can be found in the Chirp-chirp Meal habitat. This includes a wooden birdhouse, a table, a plate, and food. Opposite Meowth's shack you will find everything you need except the plate and the food. You can craft a plate if you don't have one, then place it on the table with some food.

It shouldn't be long before Torchic moves in. After you've registered them in the Pokédex, ask them to bake some clay. You should have plenty of squishy clay as blocks of it can be found all over the island. It will take some time before it turns the clay into a brick so it's a perfect chance to explore a bit, and of course, put up more utility poles.

When you're ready, return to Torchic to collect your brick, then head over to the work bench and make the planter with a brick and a stone. You also need to put some flowers in it. You can either plant seeds and get a Pokémon with the Growth speciality to make them sprout, or you can use Rototiler to place a group of flowers there. Speak to Meowth again to complete the quest.

Turning trash into treasure

Piplup will then be found talking to Professor Tangrowth. They say that they really wish there were showers in town. However, before they will teach you the shower recipe they want you to recruit Trubbish, who will give us another way of producing iron ore. Trubbish live in the Trash Collection Site habitat, which is a sign, a garbage can, and garbage bags. There are cans and signs all over town, but you'll need to craft some garbage bags to complete the look.

Once Trubbish appears and is registered in your Pokédex you can give them nonburnable garbage and they will turn it into iron ore. Do this, and after a little time passes collect your ore and craft a shower. You can put the shower on any wall that is two blocks high. Once you've placed the shower, return to Piplup and tell them that the work is done completing the request.

Taking on a disguise

Before we take on the main requests of this area there are a few skills we can pick up. You may notice that a strange item has appeared in front of the Pokémon Center. Use Rock Smash on it, and it will turn out to be a Zorua. They want to practice disguising themselves and ask for some toy blocks.

They will give us the recipe for these so you can craft some immediately. Once you hand over the toy blocks to Zorua, they will teach you a new skill: Camouflage. This allows you to transform into inanimate objects. It's pretty useless as a skill, but is fun in multiplayer.

Starting to surf

There is one more skill we need to pick up before moving on. Piplup will have a request to go swimming with them, but you say that Piplup is too difficult to transform into. They tell you to make the Tropical Seaside habitat, which is four hedges and a palm tree by the edge of the sea. On the beach near the Pokémon Center you can find a palm tree and two bushes, so all you need to do is use Rototiler to pick up two more hedges and place them there.

It shouldn't take long for Lapras to show up, and given that you cleaned up enough sludge with Piplup they will teach you Surf. Any time that you are in the water you can press B to transform into Lapras. This will allow you to cross any stretch of water without the need to make a completely impractical sand bridge. It will also prevent you from drowning in deep water, but know that you can't pick things up in this form.
