Paul's Weavile (Japanese: シンジのマニューラ Shinji's Manyula) is a Pokémon owned by Paul.

History

Weavile debuted in Top-Down Training!, where Paul used it in a battle against Cynthia's Garchomp. Despite a direct and supereffective hit with Blizzard, Garchomp easily managed to withstand the move without any visible damage. After Garchomp unleashed Dragon Rush, which caused Weavile to momentarily become paralyzed in shock before Paul commanded it to use Ice Beam. Unfortunately, Garchomp managed to dodge both attempts before colliding against Weavile with Dragon Rush, knocking it out with a single hit.

In Riding the Winds of Change!, Paul sent Weavile to attack a notorious Gliscor that Paul was looking to catch. However, Gliscor was able to block its Blizzard with a powerful Sandstorm, prompting Weavile and Paul to chase it down an alleyway. Then, Paul sent out Electabuzz to assist Weavile and together, the two Pokémon managed to weaken Gliscor enough to allow Paul to catch it, after which both Weavile and Electabuzz were recalled.

Weavile briefly appeared in Aiding the Enemy as Torterra's sparring partner, managing to score a supereffective hit with its Ice Shard while dodging Torterra's Frenzy Plant, but ultimately getting struck down by a follow-up attempt.

In Pedal to the Mettle!, Weavile was chosen as Paul's second Pokémon for his Full Battle against Ash at Lake Acuity. It managed to withstand Staraptor's Quick Attack before boosting its Attack with Swords Dance. It then unleashed a Blizzard that managed to cancel out Aerial Ace before proceeding to jump onto Staraptor's back and chip away at it with several Metal Claw attacks. After landing on the ground, Paul commanded another Metal Claw, but Weavile was outmatched by Staraptor's Close Combat. Then, Weavile unleashed a Blizzard that was unable to measure up against Staraptor's Brave Bird, which ended scoring a direct hit and knocking out Weavile.

In Battling a Thaw in Relations!, Weavile was with Reggie along with Paul's Torterra, Ursaring, and Honchkrow, disappointed to find out its Trainer had lost against Ash in the quarterfinals of the Vertress Conference.

Personality and characteristics

Weavile and Paul

Weavile is undoubtedly one of Paul's most reliable Pokémon, being used for many important battles, such as his Full Battle with Cynthia at Amity Square in Top-Down Training!, and his Full Battle with Ash at Lake Acuity in Pedal to the Mettle!. It has also helped him capture a powerful Gliscor with the help of Electabuzz in Riding the Winds of Change!. Interestingly, despite Weavile losing both battles quite quickly, Paul never once scolded it but did not praise it either, despite rarely tolerating failure from his Pokémon.

Despite Paul's harsh and aloof care for his Pokémon, Weavile does seem to show care for its Trainer, visibly being disappointed upon learning of Paul's elimination from the Vertress Conference in Battling a Thaw in Relations!, but quickly getting cheered up once Reggie comforted them.
