Ohio

can I change Ohio's symbol to Pidgey as it is the birthplace of aviation? Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 15:26, 13 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

aww but I think a Seedot represents a buckeye pretty well :3 (<-- is from Ohio lol) (Yaminokame 15:31, 13 December 2009 (UTC))Reply
What about Arceus? Ohio's state motto is "With god, all things are possible". Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 22:47, 14 December 2009
hes from Ohio, i think he knows whats best. besides, if we put Arceus to every state that represented God there would be a lot of Arceus. -- MAGNEDETH 22:58, 14 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm also from Ohio. Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 23:00, 14 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
WHAT?!?! well, id still like to refrain from using Arceus on the state tags. -- MAGNEDETH 23:41, 14 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Illinois

I think we could do a much better job on Illinois's tag. Unless there's something about Illinois that I missed, I don't think pidgeot does a good job really. --Bee § Bwakka♂ (meh talk) 02:51, 25 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Nevada

I'm assuming whoever designed Nevada went with Torkoal because of our state reptile (the desert tortoise), but I went with Swablu for my personal tag. The reason is that desert tortoises can really only be found in one part of the state (the south), while the state bird (mountain bluebird) can be found all over the place. I figured Swablu was probably the closest to a bluebird, though I suppose Articuno is equally appropriate.

Just putting it out there. You guys can do whatever you want.

Utah

I changed it to show Vespiquen, with a black and yellow tag. This is the BEEHIVE STATE, and Wingull doesn't really fit for me. Just message me if you disagree. Pringles 01:16, 25 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Rhode Island

Changed from Blaziken (which is, admittedly, a pretty awesome representation of the Rhode Island Red) to Clamperl, and I doubt any other native Rhode Islander will challenge me on it. It's not called the Ocean State for nothing -- the entire heart of the state is the bay, and there's so much shoreline, the state is 3% larger at low tide. The ideal symbol would be some sort of anchor Pokémon, since that's the actual state symbol, but they haven't made such a Pokémon yet, so... the next best symbol is the quahaug, which is both the state shell and a significant part of RI's history and modern culture. But not the actual name of a town, despite what a certain cartoon suggests.

Shellder or Cloyster could also work, but Clamperl seems the closest physiologically. And matches the current colors to boot. --Pie ~ 01:56, 2 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Minnesota

I changed it from Wingull to Flabébé because, in my opinion, Flabébé strongly resembles the pink-and-white lady's slipper, the state flower, and Wingull doesn't even look like a common loon. Pikachu Bros. (talk) 02:03, 2 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Updated State Pokémon

Okay, so no one has thought this much about the userboxes in a while, but I'm trying to spruce up my page and I think with the advents of Gens 6-9, a LOT of these states could have Pokémon that better represent them, as well as thinking that each state should have a unique Pokémon. So here is a list of states that I think aren't represented well and could be represented far better.

  • Alaska : I don't think Snover is TERRIBLE, but it's pretty generic. Something leaning into the Midnight Sun name could be cool, but admittedly I'm not too sure what would fit that other than Lunala. Amaura/Aurorus could also be nice due to how auroras are often visible in Alaska.
  • Arkansas: I do like Sableye but I also think Emboar could work due to the state being known as The Razorback State.
  • Delaware: The state mammal is a grey fox, so Zorua could work incredibly well. It was also known as the Chemical Capital of the world, so a Poison type could maybe work. Diancie or Carbink could also work due to the state being nicknamed The Diamond State.
  • Georgia: I think there's no better Pokémon for the Peach State than Pecharunt.
  • Hawaii: Honestly, ANY Alola Pokémon would work, but off the top of my head I'll go with Comfey.
  • Idaho: Due to the fact that there is no potato Pokémon, I think either Carbink or Sableye should represent Idaho due to it being known as the Gem State.
  • Illinois: It's called the Prarie state, so I think either Patrat or Watchog would work best here.
  • Indiana: Hoothoot because Hoosier! ...okay yea this isn't great but I think it's better than Magmortar. Indiana DOES also have a firefly as its state insect, so Volbeat or Illumise could work.
  • Michigan: There's no wolverine Pokémon quite yet, so I think Typhlosion is the closest we can get.
  • Nebraska: I think Cobalion is way closer to an antelope than Stantler.
  • Nevada: Honestly I like the user above's suggestion of Swablu. I also think Gimmighoul or Gholdengho could work to represent the casinos of Vegas.
  • New Hampshire: Ledyba has only five spots, so it's not a great representative of the Seven-Spotted ladybug. How about Meowscarada instead to represent its state mammal the bobcat?
  • New York: I mean, this feels pretty obvious: ANY of the Applin line. I'd personally go for Flapple or Hydrapple/Dipplin, but any of them can work.
  • North Carolina: Either Pidgey/Pidgeot for their "First in Flight" moniker, or Sqwovet or Pachirichu as their state mammal is the grey squirrel.
  • South Dakota: Known as the Blizzard State, so I think honestly any ice-type could work, but my mind goes to Articuno. And even though we technically don't have a coyote Pokémon, I think Lycanroc Midday could work.
  • Tennessee: Zigzagoon, as the state mammal is a raccoon.
  • Virginia: The state mammal is the big-eared bat, so Zubat or Swoobat could work!
  • Washington: Kyogre is the closest we have to an orca, which is Washington's state mammal.
  • West Virginia: The whole reason I made this post. Hariyama was OK at the time, but now that we have a LITERAL line of coal Pokémon, it really should be one of them.
  • Wyoming: More of a nitpick but Bouffalant is closer to a buffalo than Tauros is imo.
