Talk:The Electric Tale of Pikachu

Latest comment: 19 October 2025 by MRX in topic Altered version question

I've uploaded cover photos for the first issue of each series, in case someone finds a place to use them. They're not high quality as the the company who made my scanner won't let anyone release drivers for Linux for it, so I used my digital camera. The images are:

The or no The?

In the title. Should it be The Electric Tale of Pikachu or simply Electric Tale of Pikachu? The opening line refers to it as the former... TTEchidna 00:42, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

According to most sources including the original book, I believe "The" is part of the title and not simply a grammatical addition. HechEff 20:26, 8 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I didn’t realize there was a discussion “ongoing”. But really, no debate has occurred since January, at which time adding “The” was favored. And in the wake of the Adventures decision, logic and policy seem clear: English titles on Encyclopaediae Pokémonis’s English wiki. Anyway, if/when my moves are restored, I forgot an exclamation point at the end of the series and first volume titles, be sure to include it. --LaprasBoi 17:25, 4 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
Bumping this discussion because we should really reach a consensus. LaprasBoi, this isn't really an issue of English title vs. Japanese, thankfully that's FINALLY been resolved for the manga pages, this is more of a grammar/correctness thing.
As for my thoughts on "the The", I still think the pages should be moved to the title with the The, as VIZ's first volume uses the The, and I believe Chuang Yi's version uses the The for all four volumes. It can be a little grammatically awkward, but I believe it's more correct. (oh god if i have to type the word "The" again... >_O) --ZestyCactus 15:25, 22 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Movie Adaptation?

I'm pretty sure there was also an adaptation of the first Pokémon movie based on The Electric Tale of Pikachu, or am I wrong? XD375 17:20, 29 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

You aren't wrong. I remember borrowing a CoroCoro from a friend, and there was a separate, smaller booklet enclosed in it celebrating the release of the first movie. This booklet had a manga based on the first few minutes of the first movie, and was draw by Ono. --Pizzaman 12:19, 22 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

info

why isnt there any info for chapeters 2 and onward??Ritchie

Because we don't have an Electric Tale expert who can easily make the pages. Given that most of the manga experts here base themselves on Pokémon Special, it may be awhile before an Electric Tale expert could show up...--Shiningpikablu252 23:06, 23 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
I have all four copies of Dengeki Pikachu. Just tell me what tasks I need to perform. HechEff 20:21, 8 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Wait, WHAT? Gay?

"Also, it was strongly hinted that main character Ash was gay."

Now, I haven't read this entire series (I've read the Viz translations of volumes 2 and 4, and the first 3 chapters of volume 1 in Japanese), however I have seen nothing suggesting that Satoshi is gay. In fact, quite the opposite. Unlike his anime counterpart he actually shows blatant attraction to women. For specific examples, Shigeru's sister Satsuki and Kasumi's sisters Sakura, Ayame and Botan come to mind. --Sato 11:31, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's probably because of the Ritchie part. I've read it but I think they were just buddies. Ash seemed more attracted to girls. --ケンジガール 20:48, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
I agree with Sato's statement. Unlike in the majority of the TV series, Satoshi/Ash may even borderline being Takeshi/Brock's partner in crime when it comes to girl hunts. More evidence of this being when they snuck up on Kasumi/Misty in the bath scene in the original version. Either way, I am yet to find evidence regarding the main character being 'gay' as some put it (and naturally, humorous gags do not count). HechEff 20:20, 8 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Regarding "the The"

Just throwing this out there... I still think this should be moved to "The Electric Tale of Pikachu". VIZ's first volume is called "The Electric Tale of Pikachu!" and all four of Chuang Yi's volumes are also "The Electric Tale of Pikachu". --ZestyCactus 05:06, 8 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Revisiting this. The should be in the article title, since it's apart of the manga title. Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 16:35, 14 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'll be working on the third volume

I've got a copy of the third volume right here. I'll scan the chapter intro pages and write up synopses. I'll be writing them in my sandbox (which should have a link on my user page soon, if it already doesn't), and will not create the pages until I feel they're ready. I'll just need to ask for help with relating this volume to the other three, as it's the only one I have. And I'm lost when it comes to templates, so once they're created, anyone's welcome to put them up for me.

It might take me some time though, so I welcome any help that anyone can give. :D ~~ Scyther Be Awesome! Talk! 02:03, 3 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Myself and the other project members would be glad to help proofread and template-ify any articles you could help create. I own the first two volumes, so I should at least be able to help relate those to number three. Thanks so much for the help! --ZestyCactus 02:11, 3 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Spoiler Warning

This article states the conclusion of the manga. Some people are often angry at learning the outcome of a series before the finish watching/reading it. I propose that we adopt the same or similar measures as here [1]. As you can see, there is a "Spoiler Warning" template. Shouldn't something like this be implemented? Particularly for such a popular series. FrozenStrategy 23:14, 2 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

What exactly is given away other than the Jessie/James thing? --ZestyCactus 21:19, 14 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Manga volumes

ummm i am just wondering......is anyone working on the manga volumes? - unsigned comment from Angel10698 (talkcontribs) 00:30, 14 September 2010

I have done as much work as I can on this manga, but I don't have the last two volumes (and I don't know anyone around here who does, except for Scyther Be Awesome, who has Volume 3 but has misplaced it). I agree that it needs a lot of work, but unless someone with the necessary volumes comes forward there's not much that can be done. The reason we have scans of later chapters is because others have uploaded them for purposes other than for manga chapter pages, such as the image of Jessie and James for the RocketShipping article. --ZestyCactus 21:19, 14 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

I found a place where it has volume 3 up to chapter 4. someone can look at it and add it to the list. it is at [link removed] Angel10698 21:30, 14 September 2010 (UTC) oh, it also has a few chapters of volume 4.Angel10698 21:31, 14 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Just bought The Entire Series

I just managed to get my hands on all four volumes of the series in English (Viz Media), they're in the mail :D. When they arrive, I'll immidietly start work expanding, adding scans where appropriate, etc. They should arrive within 2 or 3 days, so I look forward to expanding the articles relating to this great series! I'll upload high-resolution replacements for some of the images, of course following fair-use policy.GetOutOfBox 18:24, 30 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

This is soooooo late but that is great news :) looking forward to seeing all your contributions :D --ZestyCactus 02:48, 22 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Altered version question

So in this article there is a picture with a comparison of original magazine version and later prints (eg. removed pokeball pattern from the chest of some characters)

I found photos of a Bessatsu CoroCoro Special magazine from 1998 but in there it shows already the altered version: https:// zoidsland . com/1rebyu-/korob98-2b.html

so I'm curious, which version actually has the original unaltered version? (or perhaps the linked archive thing is mis-dated?) Wojtekpolska (talk) 22:49, 10 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Now that i look at it, I think that this is just not the magazine despite the site titleing it that it is. Still i'm curious to find out about what the very original first releases are for this series (release date and the like). Wojtekpolska (talk) 23:36, 10 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
This is unfortunately my fault. When I found that censorship compilation image long before I uploaded it I made the reasonable assumption that it had to be sourced from magazines as in my mind, where else could it be from? I think I eventually forgot that this was an assumption and thought it was a fact. So I put that in the file name and the upload description without knowing it for a fact when I uploaded the scan. I learned this was not the case the hard way after I had spent a decent chunk of money importing every phonebook sized magazine (+ a few inserts) that had Dengeki Pikachu in it and all they contained were some alternate scenes. A few years ago I found out the real origin of those scans and it's a lot more bizarre than I had thought. Toshihiro Ono decided to self-publish it in a sort of "collection of works" type thing alongside a bunch of his hentai. I found someone who had access to a site that had the three scans in original quality + a commentary page from Toshihiro Ono where he complains about the Pokémon anime being boring. I'm going to upload those scans to Bulbapedia as soon as I've gotten permission from staff to upload scans in original resolution as I believe this material should be archived in original quality. I have corrected the article and the description for the compilation image upload now. Thanks for reminding me about this, I had totally forgotten about it and my apologies for my mistake, I did not intend to spread misinformation even if that's what ended up happening.
