Question Regarding "Switching In" Terminology

Does this ability also work when an opponent sends out a new Pokémon after one of theirs faints, or does that happen on the same turn as them fainting, such that the next chance where the Pokémon with this ability can attack the newly sent out Pokémon is on the following turn and the ability won't activate? Is there a terminology difference regarding switching in a new Pokémon instead of attacking, versus sending out a new Pokémon after one faints? If the answer to both of these questions is yes, is it worth drawing a distinction between these two types of sending out a new Pokémon, or is the difference that sending out a new Pokémon after one faints is on a different turn than when it can first be attacked more obvious to others than it is to me and therefore not worth mentioning? Pursuit

If this ability only doubles damage done to the replacement Pokémon, then does it not affect Pursuit? Eragon4 (talk) 15:38, 31 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Even before Pursuit was removed, Stakeout wouldn't have synergized with Pursuit because Pursuit does damage to the 'mon that's switching out, not the 'mon that's switching in, the latter of which is who Stakeout affects. Corrosive Cricket (talk) 09:39, 3 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Stakeout and interactions with moves that swap out the user

Does Stakeout deal extra damage to targets that enter the battlefield as a result of U-turn, Flip Turn, or Volt Switch? Obviously this scenario only applies if the user of the above three moves is faster and capable of moving before the Stakeout holder. Corrosive Cricket (talk) 09:42, 3 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

I checked the assembly in USUM & set a breakpoint to see the function return in-game, I can confirm that at least in USUM, it DOES trigger from U-Turn, Red Card, and Eject Button, it doesn't care how you switched mid-turn, just that you did ABZB (talk) 01:08, 4 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
The great mystery has been resolved! If there's a way to confirm this behavior in gen 8 then I'll assume it's set-in-stone behavior that GameFreak intended going forward. Corrosive Cricket (talk) 02:08, 4 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
