Talk:Required Party Pokémon
Interesting. I think there is a few edge cases that might apply here so I'll list what comes to my mind if you want to consider them:
- Relicanth and Wailord in Hoenn where they're required to open Regi's chambers
- Dodrio for Berry Picking
- Interacting with NPCs/environment like you're required to have a Rotom to use its appliences in Galactic Base or Meloetta in BW to teach her the signature move and unlock special cut scene
- All the cases when you're required to own particular legendary Pokemon to unlock another one
- I think that Partner Pikachu/Eevee might have special interactions when you keep them
Technically they're not obligatory to just finish the game, but they're still required to unlock certain parts/events of the game.--Rocket Grunt 17:26, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- I have considered these; I suppose there could be separate sections for those that are required to progress the story, get certain Pokémon, unlock certain things, etc. N. Harmonik (talk) 17:40, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
Move to required Pokemon?
Hi. I'd like to either move this page or list other required Pokemon, such as Dusclops w/ Dark Pulse in Legends: Arceus. I was going to add it myself, but apparently it doesn't actually need to be added to the party to make Basculegion's food; just selecting it in the Pasture triggers the necessary cutscene.
That got me thinking. Are there any others like this? I can't remember. I also think Required Pokemon is an easier title to find. I'd like some feedback on this. Thoughts? ¿¡Unowninator?! (talk) 05:12, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
- I'd like to give Coffee from discord my thanks for a few more examples of mandatory Pokemon that can be in the PC.
:The Pikachu for Bois the Heracross is required, but can be in the box :BW Reshriam/Zekrom is required to catch, but optional to use. :Same with XY Xerneas/Yvetal I believe :No details at all of Generation VII, so it's missing info on Nebby in SM
- Anyway, it looks like there are more examples than I remembered after all. Can we please move the article so we have a place for these? ¿¡Unowninator?! (talk) 00:40, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
- As the creator of the page, this idea makes sense to me. N. Harmonik (talk) 09:17, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
Page scope
I believe the scope of this page is too broad to the point that attempting to cover it completely would bloat it drastically. Basically every instance of "bring this Legendary/Mythical to an NPC to get its respective item/move," every instance of "bring this Legendary to encounter another one," and arguably most in-game trades would qualify for this page. If instances where the player is required to have a Pokémon with a specific type or other characteristic are included, as the current inclusion of these in the LZA section of this page would indicate, the scope balloons even further.
Given this, I believe it would be prudent to define the topic of the page as "specific species of Pokémon required to obtained in order to complete a core series game" or some variation thereof to limit the page's scope and make it more manageable. -- Apopheniac (talk) 01:05, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
- Are you saying we should split this into a new, separate page with those examples? ¿¡Unowninator?! (talk) 01:08, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
