Marnie's Grimmsnarl

It was confirmed in JN099 some more info about her Grimmsnarl (besides the fact he has this pokémon), such as s/he is capable of gigantamaxing and his/her moveset:

  • Spirit Break
  • False Surrender
  • Darkest Lariat
  • Stomping Tantrum

Is Marnie Ambidextrous?

Is it possible she might be ambidextrous?

While in game she usually uses her right hand, there are multiple pieces of official art where she uses her left hand for things usually done with one's dominant hand, from throwing a Pokeball (one of her full art cards and the card back with the grimsnarl, through drinking tea (in the background in Twilight Wings) to Waving or handing a gift (masters Palentine's art).

She also doesn't seem to have any trouble painting her nails with her left hand (and at least for me it was always really hard to do that) and in her official art she Is holding her Pokeball with the left hand.

Is this anything worth noting or just errors? Canislupus13 (talk) 02:12, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Don't have the game on me to confirm, but I thought she was left-handed in-game too. I seem to recall theorizing that she and Piers are both left-handed because they're Dark (evil) type specialists and there are old superstitions about left-handedness being associated with evil. Well at least in the pictures on the site she seems to use her right hand in game (I don't have it myself either) and in the anime.
But she also has a small but decent amount of art using her left hand as well. Which is why I'm asking this. Canislupus13 (talk) 10:47, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
OK, after reviewing YouTube footage of Marnie battling in the games and anime, I can confirm I was incorrect, Marnie is definitely right-handed in both mediums. She always throws her Poké Balls with her right hand and her glove is on her right hand, too. I think I was getting her mixed up with Bede, who is left-handed.
From a brief skim through her Archives category, it doesn't seem like there's any art depicting her actually throwing a Poké Ball with her left hand, just holding it, which matches her official artwork as you said. I also noticed that her concept art shows her holding the Poké Ball in her right hand, which does strike me as odd - normally if there's a discrepancy between concept art and official art, the official art will be more accurate to the design in the games. I wouldn't go so far as to call her ambidextrous, but I do think the inconsistency between the concept art, official art, and in-game depiction is notable enough for a trivia point.
