"Guide"

- Yes, They are. But we have them all in one article. I think it would be pointless to split the article into "Kanto/Johto caretaker", "Hoenn caretaker" etc. And "Guide" is the only official name we have for this guy. - I don't think Gaido is notable enough for his own article, and I don't think that this article should be moved to "Gaido," but I do think something about Gaido and the fact that he has a name should be added to the article, and perhaps a redirect created. 梅子❀✿ 08:03, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

- Oh, thanks for the screen (and an edit conflict). So, yes, he's got a name. But look, he also introduces himself as the "guide" - he says "I'm the Trainer Guide Gaidoo" or something along these lines. So, we've got both - his name (Gaido) and his title (Guide). And I think that calling him the "Gym Guide" is a much better choice than "Caretaker". Really, why caretaker? His role is giving the player hints on beating the Gym Leader, no one said that he takes care of the Gym (and I doubt he does). "Caretaker" is a big misnomer. Also, with the Isshu caretaker's name being revealed as "Gaido", the statement that "No official name has been released for the gym caretaker" is no longer true. Move or not, the article needs updating. Also, I'm not sure if that "Jim Gui" thing is worth mentioning (it's from Pokemon-X sprite comic). - A closer translation would be "My name is Gaido, who guides Trainers," so it's not expressly stated as his title, but I'll give you that probably is his title.

- I only called him "Caretaker" because that was the name given to him in the Fame Checker section of Giovanni's article. Feel free to call him whatever you like, as long as you remember to change the references in the other articles. - Yes, They are. But we have them all in one article. Updating the page
Hi. I just wanted to say that I was the one that updated the page. Gaido should be kept under the caretaker label. It is doubtful that the name sticks for ALL of the caretakers, but his name is secured for Black and White. Black and White have no impact on the other regions, and neither should its caretaker, Gaido. I vote no on giving him his own page.--Pokemon26 04:23, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Against the move
There is no evidence the caretaker's name was "Clyde" in the first four generations. Only the guy from Unova is Clyde. It isn't safe to assume that they are all the same person. It should stay as "Caretaker". --ケンジのガール 03:56, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
- But there is also no evidence that his name is "Caretaker". It's not even implied that he takes care of the Gym, he merely gives advice. In BW he says something like "I'm Clyde, your guide". So, maybe "Gym guide" would be a better name for him? But yeah, I also oppose the move to "Clyde". It'd be like moving Pokémon Center Nurse to "Casey". --Maxim 08:41, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
- "Caretaker" came from the Fame Checker section of Giovanni's page, where it said the Fame Checker called him 'Caretaker'. I just checked this in my game myself, and it simply says 'Man'. I have corrected the error on Giovanni, and I agree that "Gym guide" would be a much better, less assuming name. --SnorlaxMonster 10:12, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Is The Kanto Gym Guide Always the Same Guy?
The article is written as if no two gyms in Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn have a different person as the gym guide in every single gym (plus the Indigo League). I always assumed the Gym Guide you meet in Pewter City was the same gym guide you meet in Cerulean, Vermilion, Celadon, etc. all the way to the Pokemon League, based on the fact that the gym guide keeps calling you "champ-in-the-making" etc. I thought it was a silly visual of the gym guide hightailing it to the next city before you get there (the same way the Kanto rival's name is always on the "certified trainers" list before you get there), but I don't think that's ever been 100% confirmed. In Gen 3 Hoenn (even according to the Quotes page), the Gym Guide in the Sootopolis City Gym says, "that's all the advice that I have for you" which implies to me (but does not confirm) that it's the same guy throughout all of Hoenn. (I'm actually not sure how pronouns work in Japanese, so maybe this wasn't present in the original Japanese version of RSE.) There's also the fact that after beating Sabrina, the gym guide says he'd make a bundle at the slots if he had psychic powers, suggesting (but not confirming) this is the same gym guide from the Rocket Game Corner in Celadon City. (I'm less familiar with later games, so I don't know if there's any evidence one way or the other that Sinnoh only has one gym guide.) In any case, should it be written under the assumption that the gym guide from this gym in Kanto is a different gym guide from this gym in Kanto? Reginald Cosmic (talk) 00:39, 5 March 2025 (UTC)
