Pokémon by Stern Pinball

Pokémon by Stern Pinball is a pinball machine powered by Stern’s SPIKE 3 technology.[4] The machine itself was designed by co-leads, Jack Danger and George Gomez alongside lead programmer Tanio Klyce.[5] It features various lights and sounds and interactive features that lets players simulate battling and catching Pokémon. The playfield features Pokémon-themed ramps, spinners, and targets. The board also features a large Poké Ball, an animatronic Pikachu, and Team Rocket’s iconic hot air balloon. The pinball machine also features a screen above the table to show off various animations from Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl to Pokémon the Series: Ultimate Journeys[5][3] During gameplay, the speakers play the Pokémon Theme as well as hear newly-recorded announcer shout-outs from Ted Lewis.[5] In addition, the game also features newly-recorded voice-lines for Pikachu and Giovanni.[6]

Players must then use the table’s flippers and a silver pinball to hit the proper targets on the board to catch and train their Pokémon. Players start the game with four Pokémon: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, and Pikachu.[5] By hitting certain targets on table, they can enter a certain "mode" for each Pokémon where players can "train" these four Pokémon.[7] The game begins with the player entering a four distinct habitats: forest, water, mountain, or desert. Upon hitting certain conditions on the table, players will encounter Team Rocket, and they'll need to prevent them from capturing Pokémon during a frantic multiball sequence. Once the player has scored enough points and completed specific tasks in a habitat, they will be able to partake in a Gym Battle against a rival party of Pokémon. By completing each habitat's Gym Battle, players will then enter the Pokémon Arena.[3] Players also have an opportunity to face off against Regional Rivals and even participate in an ultimate Master Battle with Giovanni after completing certain tasks.[5] Players are able to save their progress using QR codes connected with the Insider Connected app, an app created by Stern Pinball to interact with their various Pinball products. With this, players can track their scores, unlock achievements, and register caught Pokémon to a Pokédex.[5] At launch the game features 182 Pokémon to catch, with more coming in future updates.[5]

In the v0.82.0 update, an unknown amount of a additional Pokémon were made available to catch.[8]

Pokémon by Stern Pinball is sold in three different variations: Pro, Premium, and Limited Edition. The Premium and Limited Editions of the pinball games include an interactive electromagnet that adds additional chaos to the battle arena.[4] The Limited Edition of the game also features an upgraded lighting and audio system with Pokémon-themed game effects, a full-color mirrored backglass, full-color high-definition cabinet decals, a custom designer-autographed bottom arch, anti-reflection pinball playfield glass, shaker motor, a sequentially numbered plaque, a signed Certificate of Authenticity, and a digital Insider Connected LE owner’s badge on registration.[4] The Limited Edition was a limited release, with only 750 units produced globally only purchasable by "All-Access Insider" members on Stern Pinball's webstore with orders opening on February 14, 2026, 11:00 a.m. CST.[9]
