Paldea is based on the {{wp|Iberian Peninsula}} — which comprises {{wp|Spain}}, {{wp|Portugal}}, and {{wp|Andorra}} — and its shared culture and fauna. It draws inspiration primarily from the {{wp|culture of Spain}}, as can be seen in its {{wp|Culture of Spain#Architecture|architecture}}, {{wp|Spanish cuisine|gastronomy}}, {{wp|Music of Spain|musical influences}}, Pokémon nomenclature, as well as the sporadic use of the {{wp|Spanish language}} by the locals of Paldea. Specific references to Portugal, its {{wp|Culture of Portugal#Architecture|architecture}} and {{wp|Portuguese language|language}} can also be found mainly on western locations of Paldea.
